Any thoughts about the forums providing a <Like> button for the posts.... Sometimes I don't really have anything to add to a thread... yet don't feel like creating a new post with "me too !!!" related to something someone said.

No way. Sorry guys.

Under the best circumstances, a "like" button would be great -- a nice way to acknowledge thoughtful words expressed by another member. Unfortunately, many will also be tempted to "like" barbs and caustic remarks directed at another forums member. Nothing will prove more alienating than that... or more frustrating for moderators.

Yes, let's leave the "liking" to Facebook.

That comment is a bit off base, in my opinion.  If people want to be asses on here, they'll be asses - quoting other 'barbs and caustic remarks', adding their own, etc.  Some do it already.  Please give (most of) us a bit more credit than that!  I wonder if the admins. are even able to add a 'like' button.  In the meantime, all we have to do is quote the liked text in a new post; how much different is that (in terms of negativity) than having a 'Like' button?

Sorry, but I have to agree with Tim. Having a LIKE button would only be a source of trouble.

David, I get where you're coming from, but please try to understand it from our (the moderators) point of view too. When flame-wars start, a like button would only be another - and much easier - way of throwing fuel on the fire and we could really do without that.

The best solution, is to prevent those barbs and caustic remarks in the first place, and nipping it in the bud right off the bat.

I am going to get off track here, but I really believe this place needs more moderators.  I know you mods have your work cut out for you, but I think full time moderators are needed ( more than ever) on this site, to help prevent those continually increasing threads from lock down.

I don't get the like button on FB. But a 'dislike' button would be handy. Even better a 'You're an idiot but I couldn't be bothered putting any effort into telling you that' button would be equally appreciated.

Personally, I think a "Like" button would not add much in a discussion forum.  I don't even care for it on Facebook all that much.  But especially in a discussion forum, I think that if you have something to say, then you should say it!  Even if it is just "me too" or "I feel the same way".

or a "I'm sorry you are dealing with cancer, kidney disease, heart trouble etc. but HIV is a manageable chronic condition" button

             LIKE botton is wrong name for it .

             Should be " I read that " botton .

             Barbs and caustic  remarks are just a part of these forums .

             We all know some people thrive on them  :o
