How many of you smoke?

Following the thread of smoking and CD4 I was wondering how many of you smoke.

I found out in Toronto that most of those attending did smoke. Same in Nashville.

Hermie,

I've smoked since I was 11. That means I've been smoking for -takes off shoes and socks- . . . 20 years! Oy vey! I've actually reduced the amount I smoke per day over the last few years. At one point in my early 20's I smoked 60 ciggies a day.

For real.

Now it's more like 15 or so.

I should stop. I WANT to stop. But they're so useful for crisping the nipples of disobedient lovers! ;D

I've never smoked, well I have passively.  My parents both died of lung cancer and were chronic smokers.  It's never interested me, and I don't like what it does to your insides and outsides!

As you well remember, I love your smoke, and that of anyone else.  I stopped whist waiting to be admitted to the hospital for my first bout of PCP, and that last Benson and Hedges Menthol Ultra Light, still is embeddid in my brain.  That was on August 4, 1994, and was the cculmination of 27 years of smoking.   For now, I will be happy with anyone elses smoke and not go back to my own.

Cheers.  Light em up !!!

I've smoked for myself for about 24 years, but my dad was a chronic 3 pack a day smoker, so I've probably been smoking since birth.
I smoke 30 a day and hate it and what it does to me. I find quitting really hard but am gonna give it one last try before my 40th and before it kills me.

I recently quit on 10/05. I was taking an online poll and the bastards tricked me into admitting I was spending over two grand a year on cigs. I am now addicted to gasoline. ::)

I used to smoke 2+ packs a day.  I'd quit several times before, so I was pretty good at quitting.  I just couldn't keep from starting again.  I finally quit when I decided that I really did want to quit, and restarting was NOT an option.  That was in 1990 and I haven't smoked since.

Hermie,

I do smoke about 15-20 cigarettes a day. I was smoking more than that but reduced it somehow as before it was closer to 30. I certainly want to stop one day but it won't be easy as I've been smoking for 38 years now ( started at 12 ).  :(

While I had admitting failure, yes, I smoke. I had quit not too many months ago, was doing OK, but started getting crazy.

One of my friends bought a pack for me. It seems I was being a bit difficult to be around.

I actually make my own most of the time. Fewer chemicals, I don't cough as much and I get a kick out of doing it. It also is fun when people give me that quizzical look because I am smoking a cigarette with a brown paper rather than white.

I will probably quit again. I have many times. I'm good at it. It's staying quit that I can't seem to get right.

But, what the hell. It gives me something to look forward to.

HUGS,

Mark

I have been smoking since I was 25 so that makes 10 years smoking at least a pack a day. I quit for four months when i got sick and couldn't smoke. Oh well I smoke and not really sure I want to quit.

I smoked for 9 years and stopped in 2004. I recently started smoking again (like 10 a day) 3 months ago when I found out that I'm poz.   :-[

I have decided to stop smoking after I move to Toronto next month  :)

Me and hubby both smoke. Its so hard to quit when hes still smoking. Im trying my best to get him to quit. We agree on a day to quit and what does he do..brings home a pack...then a carton. I guess im gonna have to decide to quit on my own and tuff it out with him smoking next to me. Maybe if I can quit he will soon follow and quit also.

I quit a two pack a day habit back in '86.  It was an absolutely rotten couple of weeks cold turkey.  But, for the misery I got a prize.  There's 300,000 ciggs I haven't smoked and I figure I'm better off for it.  And probably some richer too.

I started smoking in 1999 when my wife died. I've been smoking 2 packs a day since. I just stopped smoking 6 weeks ago. Commit lozenges really helped. I read in a poz mag at my DR's office that 70% of hivers smoked. That got me thinking.....

Another smoker here. I smoke about a pack a day and have smoked for about 4-5 years. I tried quiting about a month ago with the gum. It worked pretty good.  I went from 20 or more smokes a day to just a few. BUT, then I couldn't afford the gum anymore and started on the pack a day again. I'm paying for the habit tonight. Coughing and my lungs hurt. When I can afford it next I will try again. There is no way that I'm going to go cold turkey.

I've never smoked, not even pot :) I tried smoking the summer I worked at Cedar Point but that was the same summer I came out of the closet and I enjoyed that freedom more than smoking cigarettes.  When I tried smoking pot I was told I didn't inhale correctly so it was too much work and I never tried again.  Although I do ask smokers to smoke outside on the porch at my house and not to smoke in my car, I'm not against it just not my cup of tea :)

Great choice of words. And congrats. I quit cold turkey too which is supposedly the most effective attack for most people according to the experts. Did you notice better energy and/or better sleep or other things?

yeap, I smoke.  I have smoked since I was 14 which makes for 17 years of smoking, except for the four months I quit when I had PCP.  I smoke too much, like two packs a day, but I like it.

I started smoking when I was 14.....that was 28 years ago.  Over the years I have quit at least a dozen times.  Two months ago I quit (again) cold turkey.  It was pretty rough the first two weeks but I no longer have the desire to lite up.....I don't even think about it any more.  I'm quite confident that I have finally kicked the habit for good.  :)

Smoke what? :o If it is cigarettes, I have stopped 4 years ago ever since I found out I was poz.  If you are talking about smoking something else...may once in a while...several times a year.

Started smoking on my 19th birthday as something to do with my hands while waiting or bored. That was 3 years ago. I average about 6 cigs a day - 10 if I'm particularly nervous/stressed/bored that day.

Plus, there's just something to be said about having a drink in one hand and a cig in the other. One just isn't the same without the other.

I haven't made up my mind as to whether or not I want to quit for good.

you must've read the same thing as my friend did. he (a big time smoker, Marlboro reds) was so happy to come across that info.  anyway that really puzzled me to no end when he told me  - i personally think he was jumping the gun (getting overexcited prematurely, as in, see? smoking's good for me!)

It's hard for me to imagine how smoking can increase CD4....hmm, maybe that's why my counts were higher when I use to smoke.

Tobacco is a vegetable! ;D LOL

Been smoking since age 12 and regularly since about age 14. I'm 46 now.

I did quit for 12 years, but stupidly caved one day four years ago under immense pressure and there you have it.

Tried quitting at the beginning of the year, but just couldn't seem to this time. Not giving up tho.
