YAY.
« on: December 10, 2007, 02:36:21 pm »
I'm going to an invertebrate expo in White Plains, NY the first Saturday of next month with my friend Ren and my ex boyfriend.

AND. I'M GOING TO GET GIANT AFRICAN MILLIPEDES.
And maybe some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.

Eeeee. I'm so excited. They are so cheap/easy to take care of but at the same time so cool. I already have all of the supplies I'll need for both because they use the same kind of bedding/substrate as my spider and the cockroaches use wood chips like my rat. :3. And I have two empty 10 gallon tanks. And they eat vegetables and the millipedes need rotting oak and stuff. OMG. So so so easy. And they're both really friendly/easy to handle and stuff.

ZOMG.

Would you like some Australian creepy-crawlies, bubby? We have some charming scorpions down here. :)

You know I'd be the last person to rain on your parade, but you might want to be sure that you can bring them into Arizona first before you get them. I know certain plants are restricted and reviewed upon entry. You may want to check the state gov't site for these as well.

Our Arizona plans are getting all screwed around with and if we do go it'll probably be a longer while from now than what he previously told me.

But even if we did go down sooner, how in the hell would they know I had them even if they were restricted? We're not flying in.

OMG Jaser, bugs?!  Well, to each his own I suppose.

About the Arizona thing... I visited my sister there one time in Phoenix.  We went over the California and on the way back, there was an inspection of her van to see if we were trying to bring in anything that was banned from bringing in to Arizona.  I'm not sure what all they restrict, but if it does end up that you are going, you might want to check out the "banned list" before taking your critters.

Well, the bugs couldn't have found a nicer person to take care of them, anyway.

What Betty said. Yes, they do inspect cargo and personal vehicles to some extent upon entrance to the state for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is that they don't want any parasites/bugs etc... to come in that might adversely affect the environment.
