HIV Mass
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:16:14 pm »
We had a forum earlier about masses on the brain, but I couldn't find it.  I go in for surgery this Tuesday to have a brain mass removed and am quite frankly, scared shitless.  Through the years, there were many times my doctors thought my end was near but I never once thought I wouldn't survive.  Through all the procedures, illnesses and hospitalizations I always had a positive attitude that everything would turn out great.  For some reason, this time I have been feeling total dread and doom which is why I pushed the procedure as far away as possible.

I prepared a detailed list for my family in the event anything goes wrong.  Is it possible we have that internal mechanism that feels and senses more than we know?  Thanks everybody for all the wonderful support.

Hey,  good luck and I we hope everything goes well.  I know 2 people that have had brain surgery and it is amazing how  they can root around inside your head and still come out well. I think there are shrinks that have screwed up people worse. :)

Good luck Wolfter, ill be thinking about you.

To add to what GranGran said, I was talking to a guy at my mom's oncologist the other day, he had brain surgery to remove a tumor, not once but twice! Absolutley nothing wrong with that man.

It will be fine!

Wolfter you are going to have to come back here and face the fact that perhaps what is possible , after having so many scary things happen , your usual concentrating on the best outcome left you ----for just this time-------I know that there has been periods over the last 5 years whereby I have entertained/got stuck with thinking that went along the lines off---------- this time you will not get away with it etc, etc,

Big breaths and concentrate on how long your new hair style will take to grow out

Thanks all for your supportive messages.  I have literally been quivering with fear over this one.  Or it might be the withdrawal from white zin (I had to lay off due to the pre-surgery meds).  It's been years, but I think a big doobie would help.  I'm from Meigs County Ohio, I'm sure many in the midwest have heard of this large rural county.  Maybe I'll take a quick trip home.

I'm home tonight recovering.  The surgery wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.  I'm quite doped up, so that might change when I sober up.  It'll be about 2 weeks before they complete the screening on the mass to determine what it was.  Thanks again for all your support.

I guess if there's anything fortunate about this, it's that the surgeon was able to remove the mass by entering behind the eye.  Didn't have to crack me open like a walnut.  I'm not as anxious about the pathology since they're confident that it's a mass of dead HIV or crytpococcal cells.  I'll definitely let you all know when I get the results.  It's kinda strange that this isn't that uncommon (per my surgeon) amongst HIV pos people.

Thanks again for all the positive comments.

Good news, pleased to hear that the procedure was relatively straight forward and I hope you can begin to enjoy letting go all the understandable anxiety. Are you allowed white Zin yet ?
take care

My pain pills indicate that alcohol instensifies their affect, so yeah, I guess that means I can have some white zin.

I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon this week.  He already sent the reports to my doctor who uses Webview.  I was able to to take a sneak peek and discovered that the mass was benign.  That was about the only word I understood on the entire report so I'll have to wait and update what the mass actually was.

What pills are you taking? Opiates (morphine derivitaves) are known to be immune supressive. Synthetic Opiates (Tramadol for exxample) don't have these same drawbacks.

I was given Vicodin, but I only took a few of them.  I'm not much into downers.  I hope there's not an issue as I discussed my condition and meds with the surgeon.

I had my follow up appt and the dr explained that the mass was a mass of dead crypto fungal cells.  No cancer or anything further needed except a follow up in 3 months.  I can't believe how much better I feel having this all taken care of.  Both physically and mentally.

Thanks for all the kind words everybody.
