Title: Scared, please help
Post by: Scared_Joe on October 11, 2011, 09:56:08 am
Hello, good morning to all the community.
About more than two months ago I had sex with a friend, and well...I used protection, but there was unprotected oral and some fingering.
Four weeks after that, I started to have something like a common cold, with runny nose, sneezing and some cough. I took some pills and got rid of the sneezing and the runny nose, but it has been more than a month and I still have the nasal congestion and a bit of sore throat.
I have taken pills, antibiotics, and other things...and there's no improvement.
In a throat culture, candida appeared, and well...I truly freaked out. I have been testing my blood as well...

September 20th:
Leucocytes 7.400, erythrocytes 5.260.000, hemoglobin 16.2, hemathrocytes 47.8,
platelets 248,000.

September 27th:
Leucocytes 7.500, erythrocytes 5.350.000, hemoglobin 16.1, hemathrocytes 48.5,
platelets 218,000.

October 6th:
Leucocytes 6.800, erythrocytes 5.340.000, hemoglobin 16.5, hemathrocytes 47.8,
platelets 203,000.

And I don't really know if there's some problem with my platelets, i have asked some doctors and they told me that they're normal, but I'm really worried...
My last ELISA was at nine weeks, and it was negative...can it change later? Also, my weight was like 216 pounds and now it's around 202 or so, I have been following a diet since September, but I'm worried that something is affecting me.
If anyone can help me, I'd truly appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

Joe.

Joe,

You have not had a risk for hiv infection. You do not need further testing, you are conclusively hiv negative. You do NOT have hiv.

Ann,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Just a couple of things, is it possible for my result to change at 12 weeks? And, well, should I be worried about my throat, platelets and everything else? I'm a bit confused.

Thank you again.

No, you don't need to test again. You never needed to test at all because as Ann has told you there was no risk for HIV in anything you reported.

If you have questions about non-HIV blood tests, that is something to discuss with your doctor.

HIV is not your problem.

Get on with your life and let this go.
