Those of us of a certain age know all about a Colonoscopy and .......its companion: the Endoscopy.

So....Tomorrow I have my second Endoscopy. The first one showed I have pre-cancerous cells in my esophagus due to acid reflux...its called Barretts esophagus. Now a couple of years later and hundreds of Nexium tablets later....we'll see how it looks.

Wishing you the best tomorrow, and here's hoping that you get some good results. I've only had 2 of these procedures done. The first one in July of 2003. That one discovered the esophageal thrush. The follow up , showed no problems.

Man........I hope it turns out good, maybe the nexium helped, I can't take that, so, I'm on ratindine (zantc 150) but, I can only take it once a day

and when it wears off, it's painful

Joel,

I wanted to wish you good luck on your endoscopy and I hope the Nexium gave your esophagus a chance to stop it spreading.

I'll be having an endoscopy (with a dilation) on Tuesday but this will be about number 30 so for me they are pretty routine.

Here's hoping you've got a great GI team & that you will only need routine checkups!

The proceedure went well. I woke up afterwards, farted, and thought I had been asleep. I didnt know where I was for a few seconds. Interestingly, the doctors statement regarding the unusual patch of cells in my esophagus, indicated ( to me anyway) that taking the Nexuium has made an improvement in the condition of the lining of my esophagus. The FIRST endoscopy (three years ago) showed a very bad area. I had never taken Nexium and had been in a lot of gastric distress: heart burn, gas, indigestion, you name it. That has changed for the better. And it seems hopeful that if I keep taking the Nexium I will be ok.
The biopsy results will be ready next week I hope.

I just found out that a very good friend of mine, has testicular Cancer, and he's not taking this news very well

Glad to hear of your good report on your endoscopy.

Mine is 15 days away..and counting.

Just a fart? and a few seconds of disorientation? That sounds encouraging.

Did you eat a small salad that day to keep up the beginning of your new diet, having started with the Fasting the day before?

Ron...who said I was going on a diet? After the proceedure, I was about to faint from hunger so Kurt and I walked a few blocks to a diner and I had a western omlette, toast , french fries and cole slaw. lol

Congrats on the good news from your EGD, Joel!

I recieved some GREAT news after mine. My esophagus has almost completely healed so within little over a year I went from having weekly dilations to hopefully never having one again!!! So thats one problem solved ... now I have to have Gastric Emptying test where you eat radiated food and the monitor how long it takes to leave the stomach. Anyone ever have this done before? Mine is schedule for Thursday, 23 April.

I got the biopsy results from the tissue samples and they confirmed what I had thought. I have maintained status quo from 3 years ago. "No change" is what she said.
Boy oh boy, I want to go back for another. That anesthesia was really wonderful. I was high for a whole 24 hours.

Oh the joys of sedation!!!!

Thanks BT, The gastric emptying test was long & boring. You are not allowed to eat or drink 4hrs before the test so I took my pills at before 5am since the test was at 9am. I had to eat some egg beaters that have barium in them along with 2 pieces of toast and some water that was laced too. Not the best breakfast I've ever had but better than drinking that stuff straight down. They took scans of my stomach right after I ate, then one hour later and then another hour after that. At this time only 20% of the food should still be in your stomach. I had just over 50% so I had to stay another 2hrs for them to take more pictures. They also took some blood. I have no idea what this all means ... but I'll be sure to annoy you all with the results.
