Anal Pap
« on: December 23, 2014, 11:35:02 am »
So, when I first tested HIV positive earlier this year I underwent a battery of tests -- including anal pap which came back positive LSIL (low-grade abnormal).

My doctor said, don't panic -- let's take care of the HIV first and then do another anal pap in six months.

So, I just did another one and it came up negative.

So, which is more likely:  that the first one was a false positive, or the second one a false negative?  I assume it isn't something that can just "go away".

Don't know how much to worry about it at this point, if at all?  I suppose I should have another test again at some point, maybe in another six months?

Any advice?  Thank you!

You should be screened in the future just to make sure you are doing OK ... my doctors test me once a year to make sure there are no changes in my results . HPV is a common diagnosis for most sexually active adults and does not always result in cancer . Since you are living with HIV your doctors will be keeping an eye on this, many people never know they carry the HPV virus until they suffer problems so you are ahead of the game because your doctors can follow you and make sure you remain healthy ... you are going to be OK .
