Hey guys..new here,first post. I haven't been officially diagnosed yet but I think I may be hiv positive. I hooked with an old girlfriend about 3 or 4 months ago. Shortly after I got an Facebook message from a random fake page saying if ive been with her I need to get tested. She may have HIV. I worried a little but eventually left it alone. I figured it was maybe somebody who just didn't like her and went around making stuff up...it happens.

The reason I think I may be positive because over the last 2 weeks or so I've had this cough that I can't seem to get rid off. Also my sense of well being seems to have went down,if that makes any sense. I am farely lean with a nice body. I haven't lost any muscle mass or anything like that.

I'm not going to lie,I am terrified of what these results may be which is why I haven't went to a doc or even bought a home test.. But when I get off today I will be ggetting the home test for the initonal testing. If pos I'll go to my doc.

I'm not asking for any medical advice but from you alls experience, and I know everybody is different but what are some of the basic signs that most people get when affected. And lately, if pos...what happens next?

It sounds as though you are dealing with a jealous person who is trying to scare you away . If you have had unprotected anal or vaginal sex with anyone then you do need to test . You can do so at 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results . Your symptoms or lack of them are not specific to HIV and the only way know is to test in the window period I gave you . We never discuss symptoms because testing is the only way to know your status .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence .

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
