QUESTION RE: safety of getting MMR shot
« on: November 04, 2010, 02:30:25 pm »
Hi all... I'm new to the forums and hopefully am posting this to the right board.

I'm 20 years positive, on Combivir/Kaletra and my CD4 is 792/ 27.3% / VL <20.

I'm back in college and am being told that I need to get a Measles/Mumps/Rubella vaccination for my Health Sciences major.

There seems to be a bit of a conflict, though, as to whether this shot (live virus) is safe for folks with HIV... my doc seems reluctant about me getting this shot, but says it's better than not getting it since I'll be in a hospital setting. The ID Clinic here is also reluctant to give me the shot being HIV positive.

We did do the titer tests and my childhood immunization is no longer any good...

Any opinions or information about the risks of getting this shot would be greatly appreciated!

Britsh HIV Association immunisation guidelines for people with HIV 2008 suggest no MMR only if CD4 is less than 200.
