Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

really scared... condom broke

first of all thank you all for the great work you are doing by serving really scared people. i also have some doubts and really scared, please help me out... here is what happened and whats happening now...
back in 2008 i was in china. in sep 2008 i was so drunk n took a prostitute with me. during intercourse my condom broke and i didnt knew it until minutes. when i took out i saw that and really freaked out. she then went to the bathroom and gave me toothpaste to rub on panis and then i washed it in the shower. i didnt know her language so couldnt ask her anything. i remember i felt sick after that for some days. i came back to india and took my first test ELISA in dec 2008 and it came back negative. from then i took ELISA and VDRL and WIDAL in jan2009, march 2009, july 2009, may 2010 and last time in aug 2011. all the way every test was negative. and i have no other possible exposure after that incident. i never do drugs or anything like that. that was my only mistake.
now my questions are...
1. i still have little swallon lymph nodes under armpits but there is no pain or irritation.. is it due to hiv?
2. i am sick from 8 days n fever stays between 99 to hundred... is it due to that?
3. do i need to test again now for hiv?
4. is it possible that virus can stay hidden in body and will show up after taking over my body?
5. can i get merried now without testing because going for a test still takes my breath and heart down...?
6.i used to drink n smoke heavily for some time after that incident, does that affect the result?
7. its been six years now and i have tested for three years. is it sufficient?
i am really scared till now, cant get over that feeling even after that long time. please help me out. my family wants me to get merried now and i am scared...

If you have consistently tested negative since 2008, then you are HIV negative, trust me.

3. do i need to test again now for hiv? No you do not need to test again if you haven't had any risks since your last sexual encounter

Yes you can get married and get tested because you will test negative, if you have been truthful and have not put your self at risk since your last sexual exposure you have nothing to worry about.

You need to get passed your fear, you are HIV negative, you have nothing to worry about.
HIV is transmitted by having unprotected vaginal and anal sex, and sharing needles.  If you haven't been involved with any of this then there nothing to stop you from getting married.

Get on with your life and stop stressing, stress can make you ill.

thank you so much dear annie. your feedback gave me lot of courage that is why i went for the test again today. here it is:...
test done by latest ECI( Enhanced chemilumiscence technology with intellicheck by ortho clinic diagnostic( johnson & johnson).
Anti- Hiv 1 & 2 Antibody-- value observed-- 0.05 s/Co.
normal range-- <0.90: negative., >=0.90-<1.00: borderline., >=1.0: positive.
… this is the test report that i took today after that incident. i have not engaged in any kind of behavior that can transmit hiv after that incident.
i want to ask now:
1. what is ECI? is it different from Elisa?
2. in the earlier tests they only used to mention (Elisa antibody test- negative) but this time they also mention the value. what does this value means? what is this 0.05 s/co...?
3. does this value make any difference?
4. do i need more testing? or can i get married now?. because its been 6 years i have felt this fear inside me that is making my life so weird..
5. do i need to take western blot? because one doc said that this virus can stay hidden for upto seven years in body? 
please give me your opinion and clear my doubts...

They're both hiv antibody tests. Your test was negative.

This value means you are hiv negative. You do not have hiv.

Not to you. You are hiv negative. You do not have hiv.

You do NOT need further hiv testing. You are hiv negative. YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. Get married, or don't get married. It's not for us to tell you what to do regarding marriage.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has NOTHING to do with hiv. YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV.

5. do i need to take western blot?

You do NOT need a Western Blot test. They are only used to verify a positive antibody result and you have NOT had a positive antibody result.

because one doc said that this virus can stay hidden for upto seven years in body? 

The doctor is WRONG. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six WEEKS, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 DAYS.

YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. Stop chasing a virus you do NOT have and get on with your life.
