I finally disclosed to the medical service of my airline.
« on: August 07, 2006, 04:15:06 pm »
No. I am not crazy  >:(. Today I had to do three flights: Madrid-Lisbon-Madrid-Frankfurt. During the first leg I started to feel very anxious and depressed. I even started to forget routinary things. For example: I was working at the rear of the plane and was responsible for the aft door and the ventral stair. When the purser told me to close the door I simply closed the door leaving the staircase open and many other things.
I wasnīt concentrated at all in what I was doing and the purser noticed that. So in the flight from Lisbon to Madrid she came to talk to me. I told her I was having an anxiety crisis. It has been many months since my last one...So I told her I was leaving the aircraft as soon as we landed at Madrid airport. She made an "on duty accident report" for me and I went to see the Dr.
While I was in the waiting room I saw a big notice saying all medical conditions were confidential and they were not allowed to inform the employer (the airline) and only the National Health Authorities had access to their files. It also said nobody could be discriminated for any condition...
It was like if that notice was asking me to tell them.
So when the Dr. asked me if there was any reason for my anxiety attack I told him. He looked at me as if I was telling him I had a broken nail and asked me if I was afraid of dying or of becoming sick and said none of those things would happen.
He said there were many people in the airline HIV+ (I knew that) and that all of them were doing great. He also added I had the right to ask for 3 days off every month to go to my ID Drīs appointments...And told me to visit him any time if I needed help.
Everything went very well. He gave me 3 days off so here I am in Madrid again and feeling much better than this morning.
Now I am looking forward to my next appointment in the hospital: August 14th...

Oh BB, thats wonderful.   I bet talking to that doctor lifted a big weight off your shoulders... I am very proud of you!  I hope with time, all of our anxiety issues will lessen, and you did the absolute "Next Right Thing".  Best thing I have heard all day sweetie... Enjoy your down time and relax my friend..

Hello Juan, it is Eldon. I'm glad to hear that things worked out for you. I also get anxiety attacks and they are not fun. So, I know what you are going through.

Eat right, get plenty of rest.

Way to go! Iberia sounds like a pretty cool airline to work for. Yeah, glad you have some downtime in Madrid, and time to use (or get your boyfriend to use) those extra-large condoms you were bragging about.  ;D

Stay well, keep us posted.

Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.
