Trouble uploading pics in forum profile

Help! Having trouble uploading self pic into forum profile information. I keep getting a message: The following error occurred when trying to save your profile: The avator you have selected is too large, or not an avator.
Of course it's not an avator; it's a .jpg pic! Anyway, I have resized and tried reducing pixels as well. Same message when attempt to add to settings on the forum site. Any suggestions?

If you limit your avatar to 80 (height) by 100 (width), and 8KB you should be safe, though for the life of me I can't located anywhere in the "Help" section or where you upload your avatar jpg that gives instructions as to size constrainst, which most web forums do.  Maybe I'm just missing the illogical placement of this.

Also, and avatar is just a small .jpg or .gif file.

Thank you for your response. I did a couple of things differently than previous attempts and voila!... it uploaded sucessfully.
This is what I changed:
1. I had the pic as a .pdf file which I converted to a .jpg file.
2. Then I cropped the width of the photo...which makes the current pic 62 X 80 pixels/ 13724 bytes.

Before posting, I looked for a tech help section with no success.

It was the pdf format dear.  That's not an image file per se, though they often have images embedded in them.  pdf is "portable document format"

But yes, it's tired they don't have clear instructions as to the format, size requirements but hey I don't manage this place
