CDC Flu Vaccine Effectiveness Report

Since the flu is often discussed here, I thought I would share this.  The CDC released a report today on the effectiveness of the vaccine.  My question is this:  Since our immune systems are often compared to those 65 and older, is it safe to conclude the 9% effectiveness for the most virulent strain would probably be the case for many people living with HIV/AIDS, or is that a huge leap?  Is it not accurate to compare the immune system of the average person with HIV/AIDS to the immune system of the average 65 and older person? 

Whatever the case, I will take any protection over none.  And, the article does point out some analytical issues.

I asked my ID doc a similiar question. His response was that while we have a weakened immune system we have other points going for us. He pointed out the more senior crowd often have issues such as heart disease and diabetes - which we may also have along with our viral buddy - but not as badly.

He said the flu was something to watch but many of us don't have other compounding issues to worry about. He also reminded me that individual cases vary.
