The first care I had gotten new, was a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. I think I had about $1200.00 dollars, that I saved to put down on that. My older sister and her husband, co-signed the loan for me. Loved that car !! I sold it to a friend of mine, when I got drafted into the Army in 1971, and he managed to total it out within a month after buying it. He was OK. Such a shame though. If you had one of those cars today, their worth some money.

After that, I didn't buy a new car again until 1986. But always bought Chevy !

Ray ( who remembers how solid and fast his Roadrunner was )

Jan, I can picture you driving that. You would have looked like the mayor's wife driving it with goggles on learning how to drive in the movie "The Color Purple."

I would need one of those leather pilot helmut's as well Rod so the wind won't mess up my hair..oh, and a nice pair of leather gloves to match.. ;D

Hugs
Jan

cjc,
My partner Norm bought his first new car when he was in the Navy in 1970. He bought a '70 Chevelle SS with the 396 big block, 4-speed trans. It was dark blue with white stripes, and had a cowl induction hood on it. He has many fond memories, and would love to have another one someday. Alas, the prices for these things are in the stratosphere. A nice one now will set you back an easy $50,000. All we need now is a time machine.....

CaptCarl
CaptCarl,     that Chevelle also has a 396 and a 4 speed. My dad sold it for about $15,000 and fully restored it would have brought quite a lot more. It was a great car. He still has a 64 SS Chevelle but it is languishing under a car cover and waiting to be finished. he also has a 63 SS Chevy II and it drives like a boat.               Cristy

            Can we say GAY?@!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I can say Gay... 1992 Saab 900 S is a $500.00 car which I call the Saab Story.  But right now, I would like to point a little detail on the 60's cars.  All of our Dads were loggers cutting down trees and our high school parking lot housed some heavy metal during the school ear.

The 409 as I knew it belonged to Jimmy, it was a 1963 Chevy Impala SS.  It had 4 speed, qual quad, positraction just like the song said but, it probably cost about $6,000.00 and no high school kid could "save my pennies and save my dimes, before I knew there would be a time, that I would buy a brand new 409."  So much for the Beach Boys.  There was a red 1965 Goat aka GTO belonging to my friend Paul.  Jan and Dean used to sing, "Gonna save all my money and buy a GTO, gonna turn it on, wind it up blow it up, GTO"  Jan and Dean could understand the value of the dollar better than the Beach Boys.  ;D
Have the best day
Michael
