Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

I apologize for asking a question that is seemingly very stupid for everyone else but it is troubling me nonetheless: I also apologize because I have posted before - about 3 months ago and I cannot remember my user name or I couldn't locate the original thread. I have read the lessons section about HIV transmission and understand the main ways it can be transmitted. And none of these apply to me but I am paranoid - I know. Last week I noticed blood on the light switch in my bathroom. My cleaning lady had been there a couple of hours earlier and I am assuming it may have been her blood. Before I noticed it I switched on the light and went to the bathroom when I held my penis. I can't remember feeling any blood but after seeing the blood on the switch my fear is I may have touched it and then touched my penis (urethra possibly). My stupid question is there any risk in this . I know 1) the chances the blood is hiv is small, and that 2) outside the body hiv is not transmitted and that i3) t is also not transmitted via environmental surfaces. The rational side of me knows all this. But....


Is there anything I should be worried about from this instance. I apologize for the silly question but I have found this forum to excellent and it makes me feel better when I read it. Thank you.

HIV does not infect via environmental surfaces.  It quickly deteriorates outside the human body.  You did not have a risk in any way shape or form.  Dried blood or fresh blood does not matter.  No risk.

    this was not me. I do realize the value and quality of the advice given here and do try not to post every thought/fear that crosses my mind. I had posted once earlier in the past about a non-sexual exposure - and a follow up question  - and apologize for doing so again - albeit a different one.  While I know it sounds ridicoulous - it still scares me. It is your board that helps keep me sane 98 per cent of the time.

I wanted to thank you and the other experts on this board for providing impeccable knowledge and considerable compassion (and patience) to those who need it. Thank you.

Just a follow up ...


Would this not be considered a risk because

a) the blood was not completely fresh
b) the blood was not abundant
c) the blood did not enter directly into a mucous membrane

this is not a risk because.

A) transmission does not occur OUTSIDE the body
B) transmission does not occur OUTSIDE the body
C) transmission does not occur OUTSIDE the body

That should clear it up.  You had ZERO risk because of the above 3 reasons.  Dont come back with what if's please.  Stick to your situation.
