Blood Contact

First Off, thank you for all the work you do here. Ok, i work at a drum factory. Only been there about a month so im still new. People get hurt alot there and bleed quite a bit too. Anyway, one day i drew clean up crew. Not exactly the best job but whatever i do what im told. So the guy they assign me to do it with doesnt really care about germs because he's picking everything up with his bare hands while im using gloves. We get to the break room and there is a pretty decent sized puddle of blood on the ground, still wet. In the middle of it is a pair of gloves covered in blood and my partner just simply picks them up and throws them away. I was in shock because he did that and even got blood on his hands and didnt care. Anyway, by time we get done his hands are bleeding a bit too and i go sit in the truck and he tosses me the keys. When i catch them i use two hands and one of the sharp keys stab me in the hand. I look at the keys and my hand and realise there is a bit of blood on them. So, im wondering if i was at risk. The key went in pretty deep and the cut was about an inch and a half in length. I mean its obvious there was blood on the part that went into me and blood got on my cut. Any risk? thanks

HIV is a fragile virus. Even IF it is present in the circumstances you have described, it very, very quickly becomes not viable in such circumstances. So transmission doesn't happen that way or from doorknobs, food, hand to hand and in other environmental settings.

In order to be transmitted it needs the kind of very receptive setting which occurs during unprotected vaginal and anal sex where HIV can remain viable.

This time you are worrying needlessly.
