He's undetectable.  Why should he "be sure" to have safe sex?

Really?  My bf and I are in a serodiscordant relationship and never wrap up.  He's still neg (and I'm still Poz :-) )  Our best friends are in the same position 5 years and running.

Sorry, but I think the Swiss have it right.  Argue with them, not me.

You could always tell him that you didn't test positive today.   That's technically true.

All of life is a serous of choices and chances.  This one article (which I have read before) is not Scripture delivered on a Golden Platter from on High.  It is an Opinion - nothing more.  I respect anyone's choices based on synthesizing the information they gather.

But where you crossed the line was is telling the initial writer to "be sure" he had safe sex.

HIS choice, not yours.

The whole "still have HIV?" thing has happened to me a number of times in the last couple of months.

It's not that people ask that direct question, but it seems almost implied or hinted in the implication that it is not an issue for bareback.

I'm not sure if I'm expressing this right, but a number of non-poz guys who I have talked with about hooking up almost always ask if I'm on meds and undetectable after I disclose my status (or if it was on a online profile).  It's like the Swiss study has seeped into even the non-poz gay culture consciousness.

Maybe it was always this way and I have just been out of circulation for so long, but I don't remember guys in NY asking me this (undetectable/on meds?) 5 years ago when I was last single.

Actually not, the OP lives in Virginia so it IS NOT his choice.

Yes, it is.  It is ALWAYS the individual's choice as to how to live their own life, REGARDLESS of what society - or the law - says.

It's MY choice to exceed the 65 mph speed limit, smoke pot, or skip putting money in the parking meter.  MY life, MY choices.  Not yours.

Could the repurcussions/consequences by severe?

Yes.

That does not make them any less MY choice. No one appointed you the Police State Enforcer Of All Written Law, beknighted to instruct others as to what to do in THEIR lives.

Roidycreek is just nit picking because he didn't care for something I said in another thread , we all know suggesting safe sex is good thing ... he is conveniently forgetting booty call guy might have other things to share like chlamydia or hep . that safe sex practices might help protect against .

You might want to discuss these anger management issues with your doctor.  Since I've not witnessed this  behavior from you in the past, I'll give you the benefit of a doubt that other issues are at play.

Exactly, Jg.  Just because the op is undetectable, that does not protect him from syphilis or gonorrhea.

Resist doing so.

I saw a study a few years ago that said something like 17% thought there was a cure already.  Perhaps this guy is one of them?  I think they think the daily meds eventually cures a person.  I can't remember if this was a nationwide study or just D.C., because the story focused heavily on the D.C. cases.

I think it's fair to say that most people are stupid, ignorant and clueless. As I get older I realize it's not even me being arrogant, it's just a damn fact. Don't be surprised.

And many gays, especially the young ones, are completely superficial. Why, I have a poz friend who doesn't even know anything about the meds he takes. He thought Atripla had just one substance...yknow, because it is 1 pill.  ::)

I'll quibble a little but I won't agree it is fair to say that at all.

I do think is that most people are overwhelmingly self-interested and care for little beyond what they think they need to know until it affects them.

That includes many of on the board who contracted HIV through unprotected sex after the early to mid mid to late 1980's.

You might consider revising that to "after the late 80's".  As someone infected in the mid 80's, we had no knowledge of the magnitude of this new gay disease that was striking major cities.  Information was scarce, and common knowledge was peppered with ignorance about how this illness was acquired.  By the time we understood what was really happening, it was too late for many of us.

Not saying I'd have behaved differently, and I'll never know since I didn't get that opportunity.
