Condom broke, I'm scared!!
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:58:15 am »
Hello everybody in this forum, I'm glad to find you and hope you can help me in this hard time for me...

I'm a woman 25 years old and I had sex with Spanish male. I don't know him, even his status, but what I know, he had multiple partners and absolutely don't believe him!!

We used a condom of course, having fun for 10-15 minutes. I checked condom very often, every time we changed position and in one moment I found that condom broke!! His penis was uncovered at all... It happened after 10 minutes, but unprotected sex could be just for a minute or 2. He didn't come and I didn't noticed any pre-cum, but who knows?? Then we put another condom for next few minutes and I asked him to come on my body as I didn't believe condoms anymore... He did so... Then I cleaned my vagina by antibacterial spray (for body) and took a shower.

I know I put myself into a risk, but my question is, should I be really infected from this 1 episode without sperm inside my vagina?? I know, if there is some pre-cum, it  can involve HIV virus, but my friends and everybody told me, that amount of virus should not be enough me to get infected... I'm so scared, can't believe that it happened to me as I tried to be very safe all the time! :( What do you think, please be honest...

I went to a clinic and got PEP. But it was too late, I started 76 hours after this. Doctors said we should tried, but I don't know if I should continue. This is my 5th day and I had very bad reactions, not sure if I can do 28 days of treatment... I have upset stomach, vomiting, tiredness... Should I continue if this was taken 76 hours after??

I'm very alone, scared and in depression. Can you please tell me your opinion about my accident and about PEP?

Thank you soo much, your Cristal

First off , my apology for overlooking your thread and you win the most patient prize of the year for waiting .

You are correct , you did have a risk and you will need to be tested . You can test 6 weeks past any possible exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results .

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but HIV is forever.

anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care checkup, including but not limited to HIV testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine checkups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine HIV tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid HIV infection. It really is that simple!

PEP is very effective if started in time , unfortunately I don't have any information as to how effective it is after 72 hours ... You are just going to have test and wait and see . Best of luck .

Hi Jeff, thank you very much for your answer!! It's ok, you replied later. ;)

I absolutely agree with you and I'll be tested. For full STD panel. I will keep informing here my results. For now, I just know I was negative for everything 2-3 weeks before this accident. The only thing is, how hard is that time for waiting...

I still hope, that from this 1 incident I can be fine, as there was no fully neither partly ejaculation (probably less risk?). I'm searching internet and I should stop as opinions about pre-cum are different...

I will consult PEP again with my doctor, as I was vomiting whole yesterday night and I cannot do anything! Just know, how it is hard for those who are HIV+.

Hi Cristal , try and find things to do and the time will be over before you know it , and remember the chances that you are negative outweigh the possibility that you were exposed .

Stay busy and stay off the internet searching for things that are only going to make you more anxious .
