Another Anniversary
« on: January 20, 2013, 05:28:53 pm »
I haven't posted much for a while, but I do check in on the boards and thought maybe a quick update was in order.

I just passed my 7th anniversary of my diagnosis in early January.  I remember wondering if I would even make it this long.  But here I am, on meds for nearly 7 years, and doing great.  At my last ID checkup I was advised to move to twice yearly checkups and was told that I'm doing so well that the doctors almost feel guilty taking money for seeing me.  They ran a rating scale using 5 years of my labs and said that my greatest mortality risk was age and not HIV (ie, normal life expectancy).  My VL has been undetectable since about 3 months after starting meds and my CD4 count is stable in the 800-900 range.  I'm working 2 jobs and putting in way more hours than I probably should.

I consider myself lucky to have been diagnosed shortly after my infection and for having a great medical team that gave me good advice.  I also am grateful for all of the support I got from this site during those first really dark and scary months.

I'm going to be cutting back on some of my work responsibilities at the end of June and begin doing some more of the things I enjoy.  That includes some traveling.  I'm looking forward to that!

It is my intention to be a bit more active here as I move forward.

Hey Blixer, welcome back, we missed you around here.  I asked one or two of the guys about you at this past AMG in DC.  Be well friend.

Yes, I haven't been able to do any of the AMGs because of the timing.  The one I did in SF just happened to be at a time I could get away.  Maybe I'll be able to do another one in the near future.  I have checked posts on here periodically, but just hadn't posted anything myself.  Hopefully I'll change that this year.
