Sleeping problems. Again. Other stuff, too.
« on: November 27, 2007, 11:02:57 pm »
When my numbers were lower I used to have bad days a lot where I'd feel very nauseous, very tired no matter how long I slept, achey muscles, etc. Since my numbers have improved (latest ones showed my cd4 at 298 (18%) and my viral load undetectable still, this was about a month ago) it hasn't been happening nearly as much. I pretty much attributed it to the virus fucking around with my body since there wasn't as much control over it.

But, the last few weeks I've been starting to feel awful all the time again. My sleeping schedule is all fucked up. I fall asleep during the day, I'm up all night, I'll go like - seriously, not exaggerating - 48 hours without sleeping at all, and then some days I'll sleep for like something crazy like 18 hours straight through without waking up once. I've been sweating really badly in my sleep again, and my nausea is just ridiculous. A while back I had been taking Compazine to control my nausea that I had really bad, but since being on Atripla it's been almost totally under control up until now, so I stopped taking it. But lately it's been coming back with a vengeance, and today was the worst of it and that's pretty much why I feel compelled to post and ask about it.

I was babysitting my youngest niece today. I hadn't slept at ALL last night and spent most of today in a fog not really totally aware of what was going on and pretty much made her sit in her room and watch cartoons all day because I wanted to be able to keep track of her. I was also CONSTANTLY up and down the stairs to go to the bathroom, not quite sure what end it was going to come outta, shivering like it was below freezing while the heat was on the entire time. I feel better now tonight (I will feel MUCH better in a few minutes when I crash), but I'm absolutely terrified of having another day like today.

I don't know whether I should write this off as normal, shitty HIV related ickiness or if this is something I should go to the doctor for. It's not like it's keeping me from functioning totally or anything, and I'm probably making it sound like it's a lot worse than it is, cause I can pretty much cope with it (as long as every day isn't like today was, oh god).

I also kind of just wanted to whine about it, so yeah. Thanks guys.

I don't think you should take this lightly dear little mouse. It seems to me like you are going from one extreme to the other with your sleeping pattern. It is prolly starting to take it's toll on your body. I do believe the body needs rest to heal and do countless other things. I would contact your doctor. The sick tummy could be a result of you stopping the pill you were taking but as they say I am not a doctor just a Queen... ;) I hope you feel better sweetie and take your little cute butt to bed. That is a royal order!!!!! :-*

This just doesn't seem normal to me, Jaser.  I would talk with my doctor about it.  Sometimes when I don't get enough sleep, I get nauceous.  When you get a lot of sleep does the nausea go away?

I'm wondering if it's not HIV related at all but could perhaps be related to something else.  Maybe stress or hormones are screwing with your sleep.  Regardless, I wish you a good night's sleep soon!

Jaser, aren't you now on hormone type stuff?  Of course, I do not know the details of your particular situation, but I was on hormone supplementation for a good 4-5 years and much of that was the injections in my rear end.  There are very noticeable peaks and valleys with this method of delivery, as the testosterone levels vary widely.  For me at least, these spikes could definitely at times interfere with my sleep patterns, but of course there wasn't much getting around this situation other than addressing my need for sleep with yet more pills.

The bottom line is that staying awake for 48 hours is not a particularly healthy situation in light of HIV, so I wonder why your doctor is not offering you some sort of sleep aid.

Well. I fell asleep at like 12:30 last night and pretty much slept for 14 hours. I feel SO MUCH better. But even considering I fall asleep after a normal time of being awake now it probably won't be until like 7 or 8 in the morning tomorrow morning. Ugh.

I'm going to give my doctor a call tomorrow. I don't want sleeping pills or anything unless I have to, though. I've never heard of testosterone giving someone such a hard time like this though and I talk regularly to other guys that are on it. Might not be helping things though. I'm on the injections and I've noticed a lot of things change every time I inject. I get slight acne like if I am just a day late for an injection, my mood gets shitty when it gets close to the time I'm supposed to have it, etc.

So it might be contributing. Idk. I'll get an appointment and find out and let you all know.

Sucks though.
