she somehow got off her leash and ran off..  I tried to lunge and grab her as a car was coming but missed and hit my chin... luckily the car stopped as they saw us but that doesn't help my chin now.

Hey Dingo,

It looks like a pretty good gash there. Go to CVS or Walgreens and get you some Hydrogen Peroxide to clean it really good before you put a band-aid on it.

Thank God the driver in the car had recognized you and stopped.

Hey Dingo,

Before you run down to the ER, why don't you give it a try with the suggestion that I made to you. It may not be as bad as you think it is. Looks are deceiving sometimes they appear to be something that is not.

Hi Bailey

Have you had it cleaned up yet?..if so how is it looking? from what I can see from the photo it looks like it's opened quite a bit but it may not be as deep as you first thought..if your pharmacy store stocks them then maybe a couple of butterfly stiches will do the trick...let us know how you get on.

Hugs

Jan, I want Bailey to come over if it needs stiches. I have some sets left but nothing to numb it with. Oh hell I'll just let him get drunk first and he won't feel a thing.  ;)

Awww, sorry you got hurt but glad you and your pup are okay. If you can't take time off work to get stitches, then at least bandaid it closed so you won't have a scar.  Cristy

Glad puppy is okay. Hope your chin heals quickly.

Teaching touch or target in obedience training can help in case puppy runs away. Basic idea is that you want the dog to touch your hand, which always has a reward attached to it. Dog learns when the owner yells 'touch' or 'target' to run directly to the owner, touch the hand, and receive a reward (food/praise). It can take a bit of time to learn, but it does work. I have some lessons from Astro's obedience class I can send you if you would like.

Yeah, right Christine. I'll give you my two to teach. Treats don't mean anything, swats on the ass don't mean anything, except it's play time and come here means, catch me if you can. Dumbest two dogs I've ever owned. I'm going to get them medicine for ADHD.  ;)

Dingo,

Previous advice on the touch thing is good....but an emergency recall might be even better in such a case.

Pick a word you won't use often, I used Freeze for example.  You teach the dog to come running full speed at you at that command. You teach the command in a loud yell, (scared voice) and give them the best treats ever when they come.  You said dog's name and the word and slowly make them run farther to you.  Get someone to hold the dog and practise until it becomes irrestible for the dog to bolt at you.

This works great...when my dog bolted into traffic, I used the command...and boom he came back, knocked me over but....all ended well.

Once they know the drill you just do it now and then.  Only practise occasionally, even in the training phase.

Good treats are a must.  I mean break out the chicken low fat weiners or liver.

Dingo,

Polysporin and a butterfly!!! (or 2)  and as another said, the scare stuff wouldn't hurt.... put the butterfly on for a few days.. (4 if it were me) and keep it covered with a 4x4 or a bandaide or something..  let it heal... don't mess with it.... some extra vitamin C would be good too..

HUGS!!

Wiener dogs need no training and must be allowed to do whatever they want. Not only are they the best looking but they are the smartest dogs on the planet...their owners all have large penises. Obey the wiener !!

Bailey,

We're glad to here that London survived.  Our Libby sent Ric on a wild goose chase through the neighborhood about two weeks ago.  She got spooked and just took off.  Never seen a 16+ year old dog move so fast.  Ric ended up with a skinned knee, four skinned knuckles, a badly bruised set of ribs, a ring which needed to be re-shaped and and a pair of glasses that ended up in the trash.

What's up with these female dogs this time of year?

Hope you chin is on the mend.  You're too good looking to have a bad scar.  We think that a Waukesha man would agree.

Hugs to you both, Ric and Thom

Glad to hear your injury wasn't more serious Balieykins, but if you even think you should go for some stiches, by all means do so...Glad puppy London is OK as well...And Ric, best wishes to Thom, it sounds like he is really banged up there after chasing Libby.

I'm much better the chin is still a little swollen as it was quite deep and I probably should have gotten a stitch or two, but I settled for a bandaid and it seems to have healed well

puppy does rule the roost but shane is training me :P
