Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Oral test

Hi, I just took the Oral test today and it came negative. However, I'm 110% certain that I swiped both my upper and lower gum with the same side of the testing brush, instead of swiping them with opposite sides.

Should I re-take the test? Or do you think the test is conclusive?

I was/still am (i guess) a little paranoid after getting some classive ARS symptoms: fever, sore throat rash, rash...

I had never tested myself before and thought that a negative test would calm my nerves.

Receiving a blow-job, protected or otherwise, is not a risk for HIV transmission. Your negative result is conclusive and you don't need to worry.

Just out of curiousity, would you have answered differently if I had indulged in say, higher-risk behavior?

Would the fact that I only swiped one side of the testing brush mattered then?

Don't mean to argue bud...just trying to ascertain if the one-side/both side of brush argument has weight.

Well provided you performed tested after the end of the 12 week window period, my answer would have been the same.

The manner in which you swabbed your mouth for the test had no impact on it's validity. Your result is conclusive.

one more question:

I have had white rash on my neck and upper chest for the past two weeks. i'm south asian (brown). i visited the dermatologist last week and we're currently awaiting the lab results. he wasn't quite sure what the rash/infection was. the rash is more of a slight burning sensation. no itching.

is this something to be worried about? perhaps, an hiv rash? i tested negative last week but i received a couple of unprotected blowjobs in the past two months and I know that i'll have to wait until fall when the 3-month window expires.

are there any other stds that may cause white rash as a symptom? my risks include kissing, fingering (i bite my nails, and getting bjs without condoms.

should i get a blood test for all other stds???

 You were never at risk of contracting HIV and you have been given that information. You don't contract HIV by a blowjob.

This is an HIV forum but, yes you do have a small risk of contracting other STDs by receiving a blowjob.

We always advise that anyone who's sexually active ought to have a full STD panel done regularly. That means at least once a year. Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV.

On the other hand, in the entire history of the epidemic, there has never been a single confirmed case of transmission to a guy getting a blowjob. Not one. You were worrying needlessly and it was unnecessary to test over that.

If you have persistent symptoms that bother you, discuss them with your doctor.
