Title: Labs
Post by: wolfter on August 26, 2012, 02:25:05 am
Hey you all, I had my tainted  blood drawn and am noticing something I've never experienced beforre.  My entire arm is black and bue and my brother commented on tbhe marble sized nodule at the site of the needle mark.

Am I fortunate that I've always been lucky or has anyone else  experienced  anything similiar?  After a few days I thought it'd dissipate.    Anyways, gotta think about working tomorrow.

They probably either blew the vein or either the needle went through a valve.  It will go away in a few days, but you can put a warm cloth on it to assist in helping it to go down.

If not, you better post over in Am I for a solution because you may have been punctured with an infected needle on purpose  :o

You mean, I might have contracted a super infection?   oh SHIT.

I'm going back to where I had my blood drawn tomorrow and have them take a looksy at my arm.  It's even worse today after working.  The nodule is getting larger and all the veins on my arm are super pronounced.  Not gonna drive 2 counties away just to have my doctor look at it since I see him next week anyways.

What's up, Wolfie?  Did you find anything out about your arm?  I still think they blew the vein because I had a black and blue arm after the nurse apparently missed (although it looked like she was on the mark) and then insisted upon sticking me again in the same arm once she saw she couldn't jiggle the damn needle to make it work the first time  ::)

I went back to the lab since they are closer than my doctor.  In her opinion, it's a veinous rupture and because of the amount of blood that is drawn (about 3 minutes), it allowed excessive amounts of blood to pool outside of the vein.

I guess I'm lucky that after 20+ years of having blood drawn, that I've never experienced this.  My entire arm ended up bruised and swollen.  The marble sized lump at the puncture point should go away in about a week.

I guess it's partly my fault for not screaming out in pain as it was the most painful blood draw I've ever had.  But I'm so fearful of needles that I didn't want her to withdraw it and repoke me. :o

Thanks to modern technology, I got to see my labs results before my actual appointment.  (good and bad news as usual) :o

CD4's: 536, VL: 30, and finally at 20.6%

Now the bad and confusing aspect.

I had perfect lipid numbers and decided to go off the Pravastatin.  My numbers worsened and my doctor ordered me back on the med.  This blood result indicated my HDL, LDL and total Chol are really great.  But my Triglycerides went from 122 in May to 240 this time.

Say what?  Now I'm just confused.  Ready to quit exercising, throw out the salads and head to a steak joint.  This dieting shit is getting old enough already without having these bullshit results. ;D

Hey Wolfie,

Nice numbers, but sorry about the the triglycerides.

Those are usually a direct indication of eating habits. Since I know you watch what you eat very closely (remember the shrimp incident in Seattle?), let's look for other culprits.

Another cause of high triglycerides can be sugar. Are you eating a lot of sweets, or the like?

Aside from that, I don't know. I like weasel's suggestion of bison. I like that, and elk tool.

You and I are in a similar canoe, as you know. I am ready to chuck it all and eat cheese, too.

I know, we need more martinis.

HUGS,

Mark
