Depends on the last two digits of your social security number. First you will receive a letter, telling you how much you will get, the check follows about 4 to 5 days later.

Well, I had to refile an ammended return, so I'm thinking maybe I'll get something near the end of the year (if at all).

The old guy I take care of has a little over a million dollars in stocks, bonds and bank combined. It really pissed me off that he got a stimulus check for 600 bucks when I got one for 300 and I am poor.

That's messed up.

If they want to stimulate the economy they should give the money to people who will run out and spend it right away. Not people who will say "Oh, a check for 600 bucks" and proceed to tuck it into their inflated bank account and forget about it.

Also want to add,... the stimulus I received from the government, is what I consider they stole from me, and were going to mis-manage in the first place !

It is now in my checking account, where I can manage it properly !!  ;)

I got stimulated, it was late but within the month of May.  I did find a number, wrote about it in a different thread.  I spoke with a person at the IRS, she said the Stimulis package was dumped on the IRS with only three months to prepare and they were behind.  ;D  Have the best day

BEWARE!!!
I really believe there is a scam going on with these checks and the fed gov.
I read an article a month ago that "MILLIONS" of stim checks were "un claimed".

Then... my parents were asking about theirs. My sister (who did their taxes)
went online to the fed gov site and under their SS# it said "the check was returned by mail unclaimed".

This was total BS...
The address was the same as their tax return. And they never got a check in the mail.
I an totally convinced the fed gov is just stamping a huge volume of stim checks as
"un claimed" and not even sending them out in the first place.

And... IF you call the tele# listed to check on your status, you get a msg "we are unable to take your call
at this time", then the phone disconnects.

So....
If you are still waiting for your check. And its over due. Go to the fed website and check the status.
Don't be surprised if it says "returned - un claimed".
My sister is trying to get our state attorney general office involved in looking into this.
She believes its something the fed gov is pulling on retired SS people and people on SSDI especially.
She is a real-estate attorney with connections to the state attorney general, and she gets easily pissed!!!   ;)

We didn't get stimulated here in Canada :(  However, our wonderful provincial gov't sent out a $100 climate change check for us to go do something "green" with.  Of course they had just slapped a 2.4 cents per litre tax on gas to raise money toward fighting climate change (stupid eco-weenies).  My $100 went straight towards a tankful of premium! >:(

The stimulus qualification was based on income only, not on net worth or assets. A million in stocks bonds and bank might not add up to that much income actually if he doesn't have any other source of income than his capital. Many stocks have been in negative territory last year and this one.

I am not worth anywhere near as much, I was on disability part of last year, and working part time the rest, and had my lowest income since 1999, but I was still just above the income cap to qualify for the stimulus, and received $0 as a result. I don't think it's fair either.

To be eligible for a full rebate, single tax filers must have 2007 adjusted gross income (AGI) below $75,000 and joint filers must have AGI below $150,000.

LOL He is retired and living quite comfortably.

The stimulus package was a nice idea but in his case I feel it was a waste of money. He'd never even notice if several thousand where missing from his bank account. 600 dollars was nothing to him.

Yeah, I know. Around here $75k is below the median income and wouldn't be enough to pay a mortgage on an average house less than 2 hours drive from work. The stimulus doesn't take into account the wide disparities in cost of living. I don't disagree with setting a ceiling and considering income to qualify, but I think many people below the one that was set could really have used the $600 and spent it, but were not eligible.

I used wikipedia to look up the median income for my area.

The median income for a household in the county was US$43,324, and the median income for a family was $49,062. Males had a median income of $34,988 versus $29,539 for females.

Well, if I made 1/2 that much I'd be happy.  Obviously, people in that area really don't know how to live frugally.

Frugal or not, people still need to put a roof over their head.

Even with the housing prices dropping they still remain rather high . When the average home price is $1 million and median is nearly $800,000, suddenly $75k income doesn't look like much.

I was amazed to see my bank account stimulated (by direct deposit) about ten days ago -- and this even after I filed my taxes late (well, I didn't owe the IRS anything, they owed me). Came just at the right time: paid for my "reconnaissance" trip to Boston; avoided further debt. Since I wasn't expecting the payment until the end of the year, very pleasant surprise.  :)
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

One word: RENT.

That doesn't really help all that much. Usually, given a house of equal size, the rent is a bit higher than mortgage+property tax, since the landlords are in business to make a profit. It's not always the case since some landlords bought their houses for cheaper a long time ago and are paying lower or no mortgages, but still, the home prices have been sky high for such a long time that they are reflected in most rents by now.

That's not really a good option either. Most of the employers for my profession (software engineer) are in silicon valley. If I moved,  it would be much harder to have a job at all.
