Hi,

We can't guess about what your gyno means by everything. How about asking her so that you have no doubts. My guess is that it did include and HIV test, but then HIV status is never something to guess about. That's good that everything came back negative but make sure it included HIV.

Cheers,

HIV is detected via testing samples of blood or in some places samples of saliva.

j,

You could not have been tested for hiv unless blood was taken or an oral swab used.

I'm wondering if there was a specific incident you are worried about and testing over? If you had unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, you do need to test. There is a three month window period where hiv is concerned - only a three month test is conclusive for a negative result.

i have unproteced sex with guy in may, then wait three months for test. testing center has long wait, so i go to my gyno who offers what she says is complete std screening. "we test for everything." she takes vaginal culture and two weeks later says everything is ok. i don't get it. she said EVERYTYHING.

Unless you asked for an HIV test specifically, then you didn't get one.

I suppose you asked to be tested for STDs. If that's the case then you wouldn't have been given an HIV test.

Yeah but doll, you didn't get everything.

You need to go back to the clinic or your doctor and ask for an HIV antibody test.

The only way to be tested for HIV is specifically with an HIV test. That's it. So if you haven't had one that's what you have to ask for.

Stop torturing yourself, get specific and have it done. Hopefully you will come out negative, but only an HIV test can give you a reliable answer.

And in the future, no matter whom you are with, when you have intercourse the guy has to be wearing a latex condom. No exceptions. No matter what you think you know about him or anything else. A condom is a must. Period.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers,

ok i went to my doctor last week for my physical. she checked off stuff on a paper and sent me to the lab for bloodtests. i know my doctor, so i didn't ask her for aids test. i asked lab woman for it when i got there (in the basement of building) she looked at me kind of weird and said ok. so then i said how do i get results she said we'll call you in three days if there is anything. i never got a call. now i wonder if maybe she forgot to check off hiv/aids on paper??????????????

btw had last unprotected sex 2.5 years ago. before that, had unprotected with one guy (stranger...i know...dumb) but donated blood a year later and they said everything is fine we can take your blood after giving me some kind of test.

should i go for more tests now????

j,

You're just going to have to bite the bullet and either ask the doctor or go to a clinic and get tested properly. I doubt very much whether a lab technician can order any sort of blood test.

And by the way, there is no such thing as an "aids test". You need to ask for an hiv antibody test. Please read through the Welcome Thread and follow the Lessons links found there.

j,

Then ring the lab where you believe you were tested and ask about the result. I don't have a crystal ball that will tell me what you have been tested for and what you haven't been tested for. Only you can find out.
