Am I infected? Pls. I need help!
« on: April 23, 2011, 07:33:54 am »
Dear Ann,

I'm a homosexual and I had an unsafe oral sex given to a person whom i dont know 7 weeks ago(March 7). It was ejaculated to my mouth but I usually spit the semen afterwards.
After few weeks, I feel some dryness on my throat that create some strange sounds when I'm breathing that even my friends notice about the strange sounds.

That's continuous 'till this dryness became sorethroat but i also have an sticky plegm on my throat.
Last week, i have a severe sorethroat, i felt some burning on my face, right arms, and even my legs. A malaise I could say.
I immediately consulted a physician(April 17) for a blood test but it comes negative. I was not convince with the results, then I conducted STD testings i.e. HIV, Syphilis, Hepa B, & Hepa C (April 18 - 42 days after sexual exposure) and the results are all negative.

In this case, I would like to ask that once you feel the symptoms of HIV does it already in your blood stream? can it be detected by the STD testings immediately?
Or do I need to have another HIV test?

Right now, I still have sorethroat and inflammation on my legs which is very painful and I'm very very much worry.

Please advise.
 :(

Zodiac,

You do not have hiv. Oral sex is not a risk for hiv infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

The window period for hiv testing is three months - where there has been an actual risk such as unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative - where there has been an actual risk - must be confirmed at the three month point but is highly unlikely to change.

However, you HAVE been at risk for gonorrhea or chlamydia infection in your throat. Unless your throat was swabbed and tested for these infections, you cannot rule out the fact that your sore throat may be caused by one of these infections. Get your throat swabbed for STIs.

Here's what you need to know in order to remain hiv negative:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING OVER THIS BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Hi Ann,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply...it made me relieve a bit.
Because, i am still disturbed by these pains in my right arm & lower extremeties, plus the sorethroat.
I'm taking antibiotic and anti-inflammatory, but with no effect.

I've been stressed and depressed since this problem started. And I've been through different sites for the past 4 weeks seeking for the concrete answer what are the causes of these numbness & pain of my extremeties.
It's not my habit to do this unsafe sex only if there's a chance but that's only for oral sex. Nothing else.

By the way, is it the same Dr. whom I have to check for this ghonorrea & chlamydia?

Again, thank you Ann & more power!

Zodiac,

If by the "same doctor", you mean the one who tested you for hiv and the other STIs you tested for, then yes. You may need a different antibiotic than the one you're on - this is something to discuss with the doctor as is the pain you're experiencing in your arms and legs.

Nothing you are describing is hiv specific. Your problems could be caused by any one of many different things, so get checked out by a doctor.
