So, while this was downloading, I went and had breakfast.

Wow, welcome to my world. Not only personally (I am 59), but on a community level also. Our community has an unbalanced amount of retireds, similar to Florida, but in with that, there is also the technology sector, the military intelligence community and of course, the immigrant work force from 30 miles south.

So much to do, so little time!

Its not pretty getting old and having HIV is it. I turned 62 this year and I am not sure which I fear the most. Getting old or the complications HIV brings.
And add to that being GAY and old and HIV positive. Yikes....its going to be a challenge.

Wow, that was a great glimpse into the lives of those of us at or about to hit the half century mark and beyond.

I know the focus is on young people most of the time, not that the current AIDS education in the schools here is anything to tout.

But I think this also brings to life the reality that many of us are getting older and are beginning to deal with not only the HIV-related problems, but the issues that arise with seniors and their health.

This is worth seeing for people of any age - and even for those with dial-up like me. (Warning, it takes a while to load for us dial-up cronies.

Thanks for posting this. It was very powerful indeed, and honest, and emotional. In a few more months I will hit the 55 year mark.

It's kind of funny. Sometimes, I can feel like I am in my twenty's again. And other times I feel like I am in my 70's.

I look in the mirror and see what, 21 years of HIV has done to me ...

Thanx for sharing that. I especially liked what the first lady was sharing, how ppl arent informed. "Dont eat her cookies, you'll get AIDS." OMG!
I'm hoping part of my reason for being here will be to help educate people. Baby steps right now, thanx for all the info that is shared here.

I think Ray hit the nail on the head. I don't feel my age, sometimes.

But other times, I feel ancient. It isn't the HIV, per se, its just getting older.

I am awed by my mother, who at 83 has more energy than I do. I also am awed by the people in this article. Each one has a powerful message that stems from pure honesty.

Powerful...Thanx for posting this. I have rarely heard of the older ppl that have it as I hear more and more young ppl get it. I am surprised that there really has not been that much HIV education. Ignorance still exists and I am in awe of older ppl and how much struggles that they have went thru surviing this bug. Thanx for posting, as it does give ppl hope especially the yougth who think that HIV is still a 'death sentence'.

I was absolutely riveted by the people interviewed for the piece, and my heart is tugged in many different directions.

Loved the hispanic couple in Florida...what a great way to get the message across, congas, and dancing, to boot.

I'll be 53 this October (Jane will be 45), diagnosed in 1994 (Valentine's Day), but have no real idea about how long I had "it" before diagnosed.

Even tho' the lady in the first part is a little older than me, I understand how she feels.

I just turned 54 and have been dealing with this bug for almost three years. I also know side effects can last well past the first 6 months of taking meds that some doctors claim and that environment can have an effect on our lives. How to prove this to hard headed doctors is beyond me!

Hopefully the up coming conference and articles like this one will make at least some of the doctors start to pay attention to our changing needs as we age with hiv.
