Atripla, does what it says

I have been on Atripla for 4 months when I began I had a CD4 of 250, viral load of 35,000, this past Monday my viral load is 8, 500 CD4 551!

I also had a cold that had been lingering for several weeks turns out I had walking pneumonia and was hospitalized.  The Atripla did not stop working and the docs said that my CD4 would be higher if i were not sick. 

So for those of you have just started Atripla and are experiencing some side effects stick them out it's worth it and for those of you considering meds Atripla is a good starting point, have been poz for three yrs and on meds for the past 4 months.  Atripla is my first med.

Good luck, remember that you need to talk to your doc be4 making a decision, I am merely hoping to give some insight on someone starting meds.

Congratulations! Yep, Atripla is strong stuff and it does the job.

thanks for that comment..I am so sick of the side effects of mine...truvada and sustiva....but will stick it out a little while longer ....hopefully it does the same that it has done for you......

I was also started on Atripla and 2 antibiotics because my first lab was a CD4 of 52.  The first night I took it was terrible, took the antibiotics at 4:00 pm and atripla about 8:30 pm.  Fever of 103 started around 10:pm and lasted all night.  Had cold chills, dizziness, headache,couldn't sleep and was dreaming while I was awake( totally cool buzz).  When I got out of bed in the morning I was flushed all over and eyes extremely blood shot. I was totally scared because my doc told me if I had fever and rash to stop taking it and call her.  Thinking the flushness was not a rash, I decided to give in another day. That night I took it just before bedtime and side effect were much less, still a little dizzy when I got up to go pee.  Now the side effects are gone and my CD4 when from 52 to 150 in one month(VL started less 50 undetectable and still waiting for new VL)  I am very happy with it now and I hope it kicks some butt.

Hey guys thanks for the replies, I found that if I take the Atripla with milk instead of water I have fewer side effects.  Also, I take the med while in bed when I know I am done with my day so as to not feel any side effects, I do still have the vivid dreams but they are wicked fun.

I've been on Atripla for about 6 mons. Before that I was on Combivir and Truvada about a year. My  HIV #s have been moving in the right direction with all of these drugs since day one.

My only problem is my Triglycerides are going sky high because of the meds.

My internist has started me on Omacor. Any one having similar problems?

Nunii - I am so happy for you that atripla works for you.  I have two friends on atripla and have zero side effects.  I was on sustiva and truvda for 15 months and just recently switched out the sustiva for viramune - so glad I did.  It is so strange how each person has different reactions to the same drug.
