Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Am i in risk of a infection?

Hey guys and gals! I got a haircut from a new barber last week, place was pretty clean and its one of the best reviewed barber in my area. As I'm getting a line up, the dude Knicks me on my forehead, then i went home and found out i got knicked on my neck too. Now im freaking out that i might have hiv. Both of the knicks were only bleeding a little bit. The dude was using a straight edge razor and i do not know if he cleaned it prior to using it on me. Anyway im freaking out, what do you guys think? Should i get tested, or am i tripping out a bit too much?

You are worrying needlessly. HIV is a fragile virus and is not transmitted in the manner you are concerned about. I have never known of a confirmed case of transmissioin in that manner and barbershop nicks are a very common happening.

Let it go and get on with your life. No testing necessary.

I do tend to worry for no reason, but this freaked me out quite a bit. So in your opinion i really should not get tested?

You didn't have a risk in any shape or form in the situation you described . The risk factors for HIV are ...

Sharing IV drug needles immediately after use.
Unprotected anal and vaginal sex.
Mother to child during or shortly after birth
Very specific healthcare situations.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I realize that there have been no cases with someone going to the barber and getting hiv, but there always can be a first :/

HIV isn't transmitted in the way you are concerned with . If there was a possibility of you becoming infected with HIV we would have told you so .
