If you love soul,if you love musicals, if you would like to see Eddie Murpy finally get a really good serious role and deliver the way you always knew he could , and if you want to be to be touched to your very "soul", Jennifer Hudson will blow you away,please go see this movie. Hudson absolutey burns down the theater. I can't remember such a heart felt powerful performance,and its not just her heavenly voice,she will win the Oscar. She has to win the Oscar.
Everyone is very good in this movie but Jennifer Hudson is the brightest star of all. WOW!

It looks as though the movie is getting mad kudos. I was surprised to see Eddie Murphy in it and a serious role too, I hope he gets an award but Jamie Foxx might steal the show. I never saw the broadway show but remembers Sheryl Lee Ralph had the leading role back then, I think. I will wait for it to hit dvd.

Do not wait for DVD. Go see this one in a crowded theater. Its a blast! In the theater I was in most stood and applauded after Hudsons main song in the middle of the movie.
Saw Murphy on Actors Guild last night. I gotta go rent Bowfinger and watch it one more time.
I am not responding to Andys post about profits going to Dem Party. As I look at Pres field now, I will probably vote for HIllary over McCain, cause McCain is a nutjob. Hillary does scare me, but not as much as Algore or Lurch. Just kidding,no way can I vote for either McCain or Hillary. I still cant believe Willy had mass murderer Arafat as a guest in White House.

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was very entertaining and well done, but then I like musicals. My partner was disappointed and thought Jennifer Hudson couldn't measure up to Jennifer Holliday. The theater was packed and people actually applauded a few times during the movie.

Jennifer Hudson rocks and Eddie Murphy was great, both deserving of their Golden Globes. Just one question, why wasn't Jennifer up for lead? She has the major part and steals every scene she is in. Guess they knew she couldn't beat Helen Mirren in The Queen and wanted to make sure she won something.

I loved loved LOVED it. At points I could see Eddie Murphy as a couple people. I could see him as Stevie Wonder in some parts (a young Wonder..if you know a bit about Stevie then you know what I'm talking about.) and near then end, I saw a little Marvin Gaye.(Older Gaye.)

Gzah!! GZAH! I loved it. I loved Beyonce's "Listen".

Hudson was the best though.

I saw the movie, a little hokey but Jennifer did do an awesome job. Murphy's character was supposedly loosely based on James Brown.

One thing, Has ANYONE noticed the poor girl (Hudson)can't walk in high heels?? lol

I kept thinking the movie needed a gay subplot, with C.C. being the closeted composer-choreographer in the 60s, but who comes out in the 70s (a few years after Stonewall etc), just when Deena Jones is in full-blown Diana Ross mode. Now that would have been a fun sidebar, good for at least two solo ballads.

BTW, they got the styling for the gay bar scene onstage (and a few fleeting clips of an actual bar) TOTALLY wrong; completely anachronistic for the mid-70s.

Keith Robinson is my new screen-saver. I will fight for him.

Jennifer Hudson really steals the show on this one. I think the musical numbers in this movie were fantastic, and Eddie Murphy proves that he really can act. If you like musicals, you will love Dreamgirls. If you are like me and didn't inherit the gay musical theatre gene, you will like this movie anyway.

Ok..it took me awhile to see the movie but because of all the great reviews and awards, I went with a friend today to see it...the theater was kinda loud, everything was fine until Jennifer sang..my ears were ringing!...my friend leaned over and said something, I said ok, and moved my legs so he could pass then he said "what?!"..I looked at him and said "huh?!"..then he said "It's loud!"..oh, thought he said "be back"...
Anyway..loved Jennifer and Eddie!!..but honestly, I wasn't too crazy about the movie. I saw it as a mix of Chicago and Evita...loved Chicago, hated Evita...but Jennifer and Eddie were great!!

I am so proud of her, and happy for her success. I was so mad when she got booted off "Idol", I stayed mad about that the rest of the season. Guess she showed them.

I can remember when Jennifer Hudson was booted off. It was Jennifer Hudson, Latoya London and Fantasia in the bottom three and three other contestants I can't even remember were in the the top three. It was a real WTF moment.
