very worried
« on: April 25, 2008, 09:09:36 pm »
Well i had an encounter, with a male stripper 3 days ago  (he said he  was heterosexual) he gave me a handjob , and i later noticed he had a bandage on hi left pinky, i noticed two droplets of blood on my boxers, they were not my blood as i checked my penis and i had no cuts, i want to know my risks, i also would like to know about available test center in canada, whether the rna test is accurate enough as it has the shortest window period, i would take at day 12 and another antibody test at 4 weeks, and 1 at 12 weeks.
is that a good plan or am i overreacting, i have barely slept in the past 3 nights, i'm getting paranoid i'm eventually oing to think i have ars symtoms just because i cant sleep and will probably be tired and will appear sick.
also do u think contacting the strip club to know the hiv status of the dancer is going overboard or do i have a right to know.
thank you please respond i deserve a night of sleep.

Good lord.

You need to calm down.

Firstly, there was absolutely no risk whatsoever from this sexual encounter. NONE. Spots of blood on your boxers or not, you were not at risk because you got your dick tugged by another man. Stripper or otherwise.

You don't need to be tested for HIV at all over this incident.

Now for some DO NOTS.

DO NOT have an HIV PCR/RNA test. It's expensive and entirely unnecessary.

DO NOT contact this fellow's place of employment asking about his HIV status. It's none of your business and in all likelihood they won't know. Even if they did, they won't tell you. Doing so will only make you look like a creepy stalker.

We can't have DO NOTS without at least one DO now can we?

DO take the time to read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

You are worrying without cause. Relax and go to sleep.

Be well,

MtD

I don't know how much HIV PCR RNA testing costs precisely, but given that you live in Canada I think you'll find the health authorities there are not going to authorise such an expensive test FOR SOMEBODY WHO DOESN'T NEED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

That sort of testing is only used for diagnostic purposes in the most extreme cases. You know, for somebody who has had a real and very very high risk of infection. Examples would include receptive anal sex where the insertive partner was HIV positive or a serious large bore needle stick injury in a medical setting where the sharp was known to be contaminated with fresh blood from an HIV positive patient.

You don't fit any of those criteria.

Now if the HIV research you say you've done was any good, you would know these things.

I reiterate: you were not at risk, you don't need to test at all.

You're talking about wasting testing assets just because you're spooked by having had a guy masturbate you. How many ways and times do you need to be told there wasn't even the remotest possibility of risk?

And what the hell does "better safe than sorry" mean? Nothing. Doesn't make any sense. No risk. No risk. No risk. Just a lot of anxiety about having diddled a little with another guy is how it seems to me. You have absolutely no basis in HIV science to be concerned about this incident.

Be glad and get on with your life. Really.
