Just a few more days til the BIG day
« on: December 29, 2010, 04:18:10 pm »
So Sunday is the big day.  My scheduled c-section.  Tomorrow I go for my preadmission testing and will find out what time I will go in Sunday.  I was doing very well but now I am starting to get nervous.  It has been 13 years since I have had to go through this.
What I did forget to ask the Dr and wonder if any of you know, how long after the baby is born, will they give her the first dose of meds.  i know it is given every 6 hours but when is the first?
Well I am excited, scared and many other emotions but I am ready!

Hi Fran

All I know is baby will need to take HIV drugs for probably four to six weeks following the birth, so I'm assuming it will be pretty much straight away..if I'm wrong someone will hopefully come in and correct me.

Will be thinking of you, good luck.

Hi Fran. I've not been able to find anything specific as to when they begin medications for the baby but I would imagine it would be within the first hour or two, after the baby has has been checked over and given a bit of time to settle.

You might be interested in reading through the iBase guide to pregnancy and childbirth. It's from the UK, but it's all pretty much the same as in the US.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Thank you all.  I actually just spoke to the hospital who is rediculous in giving me information.  I apparently am scheduled for 7:30 am but now I am being told I have to get there at 1:30 am because I have to get the IV with the AZT for 6 hours before I actually go in for the surgery.  Nice that they tell me this now.  I was the one who called them to find out when I had to be there and it is a good thing I did.
So anyway I will be there early and hopefully by 8:00 am my little princess will be here.
