Parasites and Lower CD4 count
« on: September 04, 2012, 02:26:09 pm »
I was just diagnosed last month with two types of amoebas in my stomach. Went in for my lab results this morning and my CD4 count went from the 600s to 400s .

Could that be because of the parasites?

I waited five years to starts meds and my doctor says that sometimes we loose a layer that protects our gut from infections so I am more susceptible to parasites.

Thanks!

Hello,

Did the doctor say exactly what these parasites/amoebas were ?  How are you being treated for them?

In the early 2000's I had some intestinal bugs going on.  At that time, I was treated with Cipro, 750mg My t-cells at that time were probably less than 50.

Ray,

They wanted me to go on Flagyl (Metronidazole), since my sister is a doctor in Brazil where we have way better anti-amoeba meds than in the US (also because we have more amoebas than here) she suggested I took Annita (Nitazoxanida) a very common medication for Amoebiasis in Brazil. I asked for my doc's permission and gave it a try. Will find out if the suckers are dead in a month.

Flagyl I believe you take for 10 days or so? Annita for three, it kills everything and has Zero side effects.
