London,

Blowjobs are not a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you will not be the first. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv transmission, so you're ok on that score too.

What worries me is that it sounds to me like you don't always use condoms. If you don't, you need to start. ANYONE can have hiv infection, not just people who live in Africa.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Thanx Ann You are making me feel a little better already. I must say to you that i am very concious with the usage of condoms and since my last hiv test 3 years ago I have not had unprotected sex since. This one incident in november in tanzania was also only the second time I had sex in 2006. I just dont understand why I had such symptoms in such perfect timing. The only thing I ask myself over and over again is could the condom have been torn although I examined it thoroughly after the intercourse   I must say I have never split a condom . would i have definately noticed it if it had split?

London,

A broken/split condom is NOT a subtle event - it is very obvious. If yours had broken, you would have known.

If what's going on with your body worries you, go see your GP. This isn't an hiv concern.

London lad... go to a doctor... could be west nile virus, malaria... etc... or maybe a nasty std... but, I think Ann is right... 99.9% it is not hiv... maybe hep a, b, or c... only tests from a clinic and or doctors office willbe able to let you know... not someone online.
