Is anyone taking medication for alchohol (over)use?
« on: August 21, 2013, 10:57:03 pm »
Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right thread for this question, wondering if anyone is taking medication to help with alcohol use?

There are a few that I have heard of, wondering if anyone knows about interactions etc?

Cheers

Roughly roundabout somewhere in the eighteenth or nineteenth century, Sodomite begat Homosexual out of moral, medical and legal models, bequeathing him Identity, who inbred with Nuclear Family and Industrialism to spawn Homophobia.

What med are you talking about, exactly?

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

here is a good link for the common drug Antabuse.

There are some known interactions with HIV meds.

This link is interesting with the antabuse mention.
Then again it is from 2011 which is very old with our present standards.

Antiabuse works by making you deathly ill if you consume alcohol.

Most physicians now prefer Naltrexone which works by blocking the opioid receptors in your brain. If you drink alcohol you won't get drunk. Of course, if you need pain medication it's not for you as it blocks the receptors for pain meds as well.

Sorry for my outdated references.  Working with clientele who needed/wanted this drug has made me outlive my usefulness.

So, I would check with a professional
