My Dream Med! (First treatment)
« on: January 07, 2013, 02:32:29 pm »
Just got back from the doc. Turns out my strain is resistant to Sustiva! Good thing me and my ID doc had ruled that one out because of my anxiety anyways. Sustiva seemed kind of sketchy to me and I guess my virus agrees.  :P
Anyways, after much convincing on my part, we decided to go with Stribild! I've been reading such great things about it and I've always been a snob for luxurious things so ill be starting off tomorrow. I'm her first patient she's given it to and TRUST me it took a lot of work on my part to assure her I'd be a good guinea pig. Coming in a few times a month to check my kidneys until she's certain it's ok. This forum has been amazingly helpful in this whole process. My docs have all been shocked by how knowledgable I am on all these treatment options (maybe even a little annoyed!)
I'm also taking my klonipin and a weekly mega vitamin thing to boost my vitamin D and shit. Psychiatrist ordered another blood draw to check my thyroid and B-12 in regards to my anxiety. I think my brain is just wired that way though; it never stops racing and probably never will.
Anyways, ill keep everyone posted about my Stribild journey. All in all, a nice doctors visit. EXCEPT I gained 5 pounds over the holidays so now il off to spend a few hours with my friend, the treadmill.

Any side effects? Also, anyone know how common Sustiva resistance is? Does the fact that I'm starting out with this resistance increase the risk of new resistances forming?

Considering Atripla is the most common prescribed HiV medication chances are Sustiva resistance is common enough.

No, the fact that you are starting with this resistance does not increase the risk of new resistance forming as long as you take your medication every day like a good little soldier.

Side note, Your post came about at the same time as this post

http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=46783.0

Which the op is describing Atripla as a "good pill."  Try not to get emotionally attached into the medication you are taking.  It's a couple of chemicals, not a luxury item as you describe.  I'd hate for you to have some issue with it and then be emotionally  hurt that it didn't work.  They ALL work equally as good, If this combo works, Great, if it doesn't you'll start a new one.

An ironic sense of humor rarely translates well via the web. I was mostly commenting on the way this drug in particular has been viewed. Also, on its price point (yikes!). I'm glad to be riding in the Cadillac of HIV meds but would gladly hop in the Buick if it took me to my destination faster.  8)
