Update: 12/13/10

Just got home about a 45 minutes ago.  Had my three month labs drawn, so I will get those results around January 13th.

The woman that drew my blood, was an anxious, nervous type, until I took off my jacket and she realized, I have good veins!   :P I think she was new, I never seen her before.

Ok, back to bed, then work tonight...   :P

Hey Ray,

The numbers look great! Seems like things are going pretty well for you.

I presume the nerve conduction test is for the neuropathy. What is the MRI for?

Just being curious.

Hi Mark

This past couple of months, I've been experiencing some pain and discomfort,  but it's only in my left arm.  A major tingling and numbness, and electrical shock type feeling Almost feels as though the arm is asleep. also noticed some loss of grip in the left hand.

They want to do a cervical MRI, to check the neck out.  I had some bulging disc, back in 2004, and he thinks something in the neck, may be causing the numbness and tingling in the left arm. Also I've been having some stiffness in the neck

So, we'll see what happens !

Good numbers, Ray, especially the CD4's and %'s!  I hope the nerve conduction test and MRI shows what is going on.  I hate not knowing.  Please keep us updated!

Yes,  I hate not knowing too.  I will keep everyone updated.  Even as I type, at this moment, it feels as though I've got my left hand around live bare electrical wires.  But it's not a constant thing.  I am convinced, that I have something going on in the neck, that's causing this. Seems to be most noticible when  I am in bed.

I went to the VA yesterday, to get the results of my blood test taken on 3/21/11

Overall not bad.

CD4 ----420   Was 446

CD8-----2000  was  1690

CD3----- 2798  was  2264

T HELP%  -- 15%  was  19%

CD4:CD8  <0.21   ( RANGE .83-6.1)

Viral load  <75

The only other tests not within range, were:

BUNLX---22  ( RANGE 8-20)

TP----6.1  ( RANGE 6.3-8.2)

WBC--11.1   ( RANGE 4-10.6)

And,  I should be getting the confirmation letter in the mail any day now, for the MRI. We discussed this again yesterday.  The numbness/tingling/ electrical shock, type feeling, is much more constant now in the entire left arm.

Also mentioned to the doctor, that the tinnitus, seems to be getting worse, so he's going to arrange a hearing test.  I think I may be having some hearing loss issues.

Otherwise,   Hanging in there!

Forgot to mention,... The doctor said that the new once a day Viramune, should be available soon for me. Goodbye to the twice a day dosing.

Yes, I am left handed.   I had a neck injury back in 2003 or 2004. I would have to look it up ( work related)  The MRI at that time showed a bulging disc, in C-5 and C-6. It only caused a minor problem for a very short period of time, but I am also convinced I've got a pinched nerve. Hopefully this upcoming MRI, will show something, and I'll have some answers.

I also went back to when I had the MRI done for the cervical spine.  It was actually done on March 14th, 2005, not in 2003 or 04 as I previously thought. In fact I am looking at some of my MRI's now.  :P

You can imagine how Kurt felt...sitting in a waiting room of 70 something women waiting for a bone density scan.  And in fact he has osteoporosis.  Small bones in his feet SPONTANEOUSLY BREAK.  Freaks me out.  Just walking or standing...and a bone breaks.  Thats why he takes a calciium supplement every day (600 mg I thnk).  Also why he has twenty pair of shoes lying around the kitchen so he can try getting something comfortable. Combined with neuropathy he has had a lot of problems with feet.
He also goes to the gym to try and build muscle mass.
But, you know, talk to your doctor first.
If you are turing 60..I'd say you are past due for a bone density scan.
Lovely thought!!!

Hooray!!

I have the MRI scheduled for this Friday at 7:00 PM.  I arranged it about 20 minutes ago, but thought they said 7:00 AM.

Meantime, I arranged with a fellow co-worker to come in at 6:00 AM on Friday, so I could be there on time. I thought they said 7:00 AM

However, when I called the automated appointment verification it said 7:00 PM. I spoke to a live person and he verified that it was a 7:00 PM appointment.   :P

Apparently the VA does MRI's 7:00 am through 7:00 pm, seven days a week.

Perhaps now, I'll get some answers.

Well.....

That's out of the way ! I arrived at St. Pete VA around 6:15Pm and was out of there, by 7:00. The MRI went well.   I forgot how much noise these machines make !  :P

I just have to wait for a follow up appointment to get the results.

I had an MRI done just recently (something is torn in my shoulder and I'm waiting till after summer to get the surgery because I wanna be able to tan and make the AMG without my arm in a sling. LOL). The technician forgot to turn the music on in my headphones until the last 3 minutes - and woke me up from my nap.  ::) Once you tune out the thumping and banging it's kinda relaxing. LOL

hope you get some answers! ;)

M,

I didn't have any music either throughout the entire MRI.  I"m not even sure if it was equipped for that.  I had a feeling, the the headphones were just a noise reduction set.

It was louder than the MRI, I got in 2005  :P

On a side note, I have to remember next time to remove my prince Albert.  My business, is now stretched out to about 18 inches!  ;)

On a side note, I have to remember next time to remove my prince Albert.  My business, is now stretched out to about 18 inches!  ;)

Ed and I went down to the VA today, to get the report from the MRI I had done on 4/15/11.

Not sure what a lot of this means, as I haven't spoken to anyone yet. Guess I'll  google a little.   :P

Anyway, Here's the report:

Reason for Study:  Radiculopathy (Left)  Radiculopathy ( Right)
===========================================

Report:

MRI of cervical spine without contrast

Findings:  The Posterior fossa is normal.  The cord is normal in size and signal intensity with no edema seen on the sagittal images.

There is mild degenerative endplate changes at C-6-C-7 with small in plate osteophytes.

There is no compression fracture or destructive bony lesion.

There is no canal or foraminal stenosis at C-2-C-3,  C-3 -C-4,  C-4-C-5,  AND C-5-C-6.

C-6-C-7 , There is no uncovertebral joint hypertrophy and facet arthropathy with mild canal stenosis and left - sided greater than right - sided foraminal narrowing.

There is no cord compression.  C-7 - T-1 level is normal.
=========================================

Impression:

1. Mild canal stenosis with left greater than right foraminal narrowing at C-6- C-7

2. Otherwise unremarkable MRI of the Cervical spine.

Primary Diagnostic code:  Minor Abnormality

Ray, the rest of it is way ABOVE my pay grade, however these 2 sound very sound to me:

Otherwise unremarkable MRI of the Cervical spine.

Primary Diagnostic code:  Minor Abnormality

so, my guess, and this is only my guess, I don't think you have much to worry about here, thanks for sharing this, I like you, I'm going to have to look the rest of this up  ;)

I am kind of thinking the same also.  My next appointment with the doctor isn't until July.

So,....Hmmmm  ,  next question for him,  if the MRI is so unremarkable, whats the next thing to check for regarding this left arm issue.

The good thing is, it's not getting any worse, but it's not better either.   ???

Hey Ray,

It sorta sounds like there is some minimal amount of deterioration (read: bones getting older), but I noticed they said there was no edema, which I believe means no abnormal collection of fluid in the spinal column.

Let us know what the doctor tells you, or Google.  ;)

This is the one that's grabbing my interest. Apparently these "Osteophytes" are or can be age related. But from what I read, they only get bigger.

 :o

Big blood draw at the VA clinic today.   The drew 9 vials today. Even the guy drawing the blood said, "Wow!"   I told him they could draw as much as they wanted. Makes me feel as though, there taking good care of me.  I think some of the tests today were ordered by my primary care, along with the HIV doctor. And I think some of these were annual tests, that they do. ( PSA )

My follow up appointment for those results, will be on July 28th, but I'll go down to the VA hospital to the release of information, and get those results in about two of three weeks, (because I am curious when they draw 9 vials).

I like having those results in my hand, as the doctor is discussing them, plus it gives me a few weeks in advance to get some questions together.

In addition to those tests today, I've got fasting labs to be taken on July 20th.

And,  They also scheduled another EKG for me on the 20Th of July as well.

Well,.... I'm off to the doctor in about an hour.  We're going to discuss an EKG that apparently wasn't so great last Wednesday.  :-\       Also going to discuss some labs taken last Wednesday, and see how the cholesterol and tri's are doing. I'll  post results later.

So, when she  wired me up last week, for the EKG, the first thing she said was, "Do you know you have an arrhythmia? "    :-\  That's the first time I heard that word used.

Is that the same as leaky heart valves?  :o   I will find out ...

I'm starting to question the Abacavir now. we"ll talk about that again too.

Update: 7/25/11

Ok,  Bottom line, I am fat and lazy!   ::)    These aren't the words that the doctor used today, but it's time ( she says), and I agree, to seriously get active and start loosing some weight.  I am now 10 pounds heavier, than I was at this time last year.

First things first:  The doc walks into the room today and smiles and says,  there is nothing wrong with the heart.  It is a normal sinus arrhythmia. Everything was normal on the EKG. That's not what I was expecting to hear, but it made my day. We discussed the echo-cardiogram, that I had back on 8/16/10.

She also asked me if I would be interested in a stress test. I said of course ! So, she is going to schedule that for me. She is also going to schedule an eye exam.

From those results on 8/16/10

Cardiac Valves:

Aortic valve trileaflet---Aortic regurgitation:  Trivial--------PHT 433-MSEC

Mitreal Valve:  Mitreal regurgitaton:  Trivial

Tricuspid Valve;  Tricuspid regurgitation:  Trivial-----RSVP--25MM Hg

Aorta root size:  normal

Pericadium  Effusion: none

Impressions :

1.  Normal chamber sizes

2.Normal LV Systolic function

3. Trivial , AI, MR, AND TR

EKG Lead shows :  Sinus rhythm

===========================================
My biggest concern right now, is loosing weight. She would like to see me get down to at least 150 pounds. That mean a 38 pound weight drop.  According to their scales, I weigh   188 pounds @ 5 feet 7 inches

She stated that I am getting to be pre-diabetic. So, the weight needs to get back under control.  I need a much more disciplined diet.  And definitely,  more exercise.  More fruits and vegetables is a must!

I will have a return appointment with her in 3 months.  We will see how the numbers fall in 3 months, and the possibility of a statin switch came up.  She suggested Crestor, if we don't get some favorable results.

The good news is that statin I have been on is not affecting my liver..but maxed out on simvistatin and need to try other ways to bring the numbers down before going to another statin...aka...exercise  and weight loss.

Here's the ( fasting) lab results from this past Wednesday:

Looks pretty good Ray --  the cholesterol and tri's...well, you'll work on that with diet and exercise.

I can offer you NO MOTIVATION whatsoever, since I cannot seem to motivate myself to exercise one bit.
Why are we this way?   I guess lazy is the right word....

Are there any stairs at your work?  I wish I had some; I used to climb the stairs everyday on the job, and that kept me in pretty good shape (there were 14 flights).

Keep us posted --

Hello Alan,

No, I think your right.   :-*    Motivation is the word.  Because, when I really look back at,  Lazy I'm not !! I certainly have enough drive, it's taking a much longer time trying to get the engine started.   :)

Everything is right on track. I now have the stress test ( which I have never done before) ,  scheduled for Thursday, September 8th @ 3:30 in the afternoon. I've already arranged to take off that Thursday night from work. Saturday the 10th, is the St Petersburg Aids walk, so it will give me a chance to rest up a little.

I'll come from work that morning, and manage to get ( hopefully ) 5 hours of sleep, before driving down to St. Pete.

I also have an eye exam, scheduled for September 30th @ 4:00 pm.

Otherwise, all is well, ( or as well as can be expected),... just getting closer to vacation time.  One more work week to go, before our trip.

Oh yes,... I've lost 3 pounds since seeing the doctor on, July 25th.  So it's a start.  I've notice much less of that bloated feeling.

Stress test today...

Wish me luck!  Today's the day, I go for my stress test.  I got home from work about 45 minutes ago, I'm going to try to get at least 5 hours of sleep.

The stress test is scheduled for 3:00 pm, but they want me there at 2:30.

Hope its not too stressful !   :P

Thanks guys....

Well,... That was a non eventful event !! Got through that quite well, the whole test, didn't take more than 20 minutes. I don't have the official report, I"ll pick that up next week sometime, but she said, " no problem "  I went through the test very well.

Unfortunately, they had to drastically shave my chest before applying the electrode things.  I had no idea how much they shaved, until we got home and I took my shirt off.  Ed started laughing !!!   :D   So,  I decided to shave the entire chest and stomach area, because it looked so ridiculous.

Now, with nothing there it looks even more ridiculous.  These man boobs really show now, geez, I need to tone up some !  :D  I'd put up a pic , but I am too embarrassed !  ::)

Next week On Tuesday the 13th, @ 9:00, I have the nerve conduction test scheduled, so I will be looking forward to that one.

I am off of work tonight, will have a long weekend, looking forward to the  St.Pete aids walk this Saturday, hopefully it wont' rain:

glad you lived thru the event, and will get to walk in the upcoming event. Good luck and have fun with that!

Enjoy the walk

I hope it doesn't get cancelled.  It was rumbling outside not to long ago:

There is still a blob of rain in the Gulf of Mexico heading this way.   :-\

I will post some pictures if the aids walk isn't cancelled.

:P  Well,.... I thought I was having a nerve conduction tests done this morning, but after arriving at the VA , @ 8:30,  I found I was having a Carotid Doppler test done instead. The test lasted about 25 minutes. The person performing the test said , she didn't see any problems, but that a report will be sent to the doctor. I am going to try to get those results @ release of information, next week.

I have two more appts. scheduled for this month.  Fasting labs on 9/28, and an eye exam on 9/30.   It's been A busy month.

I received the report yesterday,  from my primary care doctor, regarding the results of the BP cardio stress test done on 9/8/11

Dear Mr........

I have received the test results for the stress test done on 9/8/11

Results:  Normal Exercise stress test.

Sincerely, Dr.   ...........

( I thought they would give more detailed results than that, perhaps those results can be found at release of information. I still have to check on that.  But overall I'm pleased !  8)  )

===============================================

Now I just have to get the results for the Carotid Doppler test, done on 9/13/11   :P

Great news!  None of us need extra issues to deal with.  Did the cardiologist give an explanation of the arrhythmia?

Did the cardiologist give an explanation of the arrhythmia?

They only said it was "Normal," and trivial.

"Normal and trivial" sounds OK, but I hate when they use general terms like that.

I remember when I had my last stress test done, they said I had a leaking valve, but that it is "normal for someone my age." >:(

Glad you're doing well Ray.

Mark

Yep, I know what you mean Mark.  I guess the good thing is, I am not dealing with any issues because of this !.
