Hey All,
Just got back from the docs and my latest labs have me absolutely floored. Considering that I have been poz for 22 years and at one point, has so few CD4s, that I named them and then I get these results.
CD4s: 727, 27% and VL undetectable. This is the first time I have every topped 600 CD4s, let alone 700 and my percentage has never gone above 23%. I'm just stunned at how well I am responding to the new meds. Jim also told me that 75% of my new CD4s are the naive type, but I'll have to do some digging to remember why exactly that is a good thing (I think it's something to do with resistance.)
Maybe I will be around to see that third decade with HIV.

Joe, not only am I happy for your results....(let me be selfish for a moment here).....but it really inpires me to believe that it's possible to have a long life with this virus tagging along.

Congrats Joe ! Those are GREAT results for someone who has been poz for so long. it certainly gives a lot of hopes to the ones recently infected, and also to the ones not so recently infected. :)

Thanks everyone, I'm still floating and that is one of the main reasons I shared this with everyone. So that people could understand that you can not only live with HIV, you can THRIVE in spite of HIV. I did it through the decades with much fewer options than today. I hope that readers take away from this that too can also celebrate many decades with HIV if they make reasonable life decisions.
And Bill, isn't that the old Dow Chemical tag line?: "Better life through Chemicals" But who am I to argue, it's worked for me.

I am absolutely astounded and elated with your current report. That is fantabulous!!! And, thank you so much for sharing this. It is GREAT encouragement for the more recentlly infected, those who see life is over when it really isn't.

I have told you before how excited I am about your labs. Fabulous.
For all those, recently infected :
In 1995 had a viral load of millions, CD4 count of 17 and now, after 19 years of HIV I have been undetectable for almost 9 years and my T count has been up to 950 ( currently at 580)
We are a light in the dark for a lot of newly infected Joe.

Congrats on the fantastic numbers, Joe!!!! Hopefull you'll have many more milestones like this in the future.

Hey Joe, sending some big woofy cubbyhugs your way. Those numbers are really inspiring, and something newbies like me need to see, especially when we were diagnosed with double or single digit cd4 counts. To see you go all the way back up there gives me hope mine will get there too in years to come.

Wow, lots of good cheer and all of this is brought to you by Truvada and Viramune. I take exactly three pills a day to control my HIV, when my personal best was 64 pills per day in 96. I can't believe that I once had exactly four CD4s that were named: Gizmo and Gadget and Harold and Maude (a haunting movie about funerals) and that 11 years later I could have the best labs ever, in my 22 years of being poz.
I suppose it's good that memory fades, because the cost to be here has been very dear. Virtually everyone I had ever known from a decade of my life, just gone. I often wonder if I was at my best then, because you had to reach beyond yourself, to address the carnage and to salvage what little hope there was. Yet I fear that we have made little progress where it matters most, the acceptance of our existence and responses to our demands for fair and humane treatment. To undercut ADAP programs, by mere millions, that could do so much, yet we can squander one half of one trillion dollars, that's 500 billion dollars on defense each year.
But all of this is fodder for another day ...

Wow, no PI's. Havent you taken these drugs before? I think I took viramune whenit first came out and of course am resistant now. I am also taking truvada, even though both viread and emtriva,on their own, have made me very sick in the past. Maybe time to buy more of this gilead stock? they seem to be on to something.
Its fun to have good numbers after so many years of them going in the other direction. Really great news.
