... that steam ironing four silk ties is a back breaking activity.

But I still have three hours now to choose between two suits, three french cuff shirts, four ties, two belts, two pairs of dress shoes, two sets of cuff links and two wallets.

ps: do any of you have matching python cuff links and wallet? I BET YOU DO NOT.

Oh please.  I just replaced my 4 window drapes and my windows are 10ft. tall by 5ft. wide.  Each curtain panel equals 50sf.  I just finished ironing 400 SQUARE FEET of curtains that took almost three hours, including 8 tie-backs and you are complaining about ironing 4 ties?   ;D

If Ms. P is only ironing ties, I would assume she has found someone good to do her dress shirts.  I wish I could.  I've given up on finding a laundry service that can do a decent job of starching and pressing my dress shirts in a way I find acceptable.

So I'm stuck doing them myself..... MUCH more difficult than ironing ties.

I waited 2 years to iron drapes once , I figured the wrinkles would fall out eventually but it came down to ironing them and I detest ironing . I donated all my shirts that need ironing and just kept a few funeral shirts as I call them and I send them to the cleaners.

I thought ties couldn't be ironed.  How did they even get wrinkled?

As for shirts - darryaz where do you live?  Cheap great laundry easy to find in NYC.
Its awfully expensive in Switzerland.

Its usually easier to get a good job on a hanger (and cheaper) than folded.  But folded pressed and wrapped in paper shirts are a pleasure in life.

I'm going to a swanky AIDS benefit downtown at The Union League of Philadelphia (which I've never been to before). My HIV clinic sponsored a table for members of my LTS support group so I am not paying to attend, but business attire is required, though not black tie.

My dress shirts were pressed after the last time I wore them (I have a good dry cleaner run by Chinese folks!) and I am good at storing my nice clothing that I possess from a time long ago when I had a well-paying job. However I had to have the pants to the two suits I'm considering wearing altered at considerable expense and dry cleaned.

I haven't really gained weight but maybe 5 lbs during the past two years which I attribute to all of those surgeries I've had and then the recovery downtime. I did try and lower my calorie intake during all of that but you know my predilection for fancy smelly cheeses, etc.

This next year I need to begin an exercise regimen and/or join a gym.

Of course one can iron a tie -- my Rowenta has a low temp setting for silk and I place tissue paper over the tie. My collection of nice ties suffered greatly since moving to Philadelphia because I never wear any of them, so I threw them in a box. They weren't badly creased or anything, just a bit rumpled.

Well Joe, Miss P absolutely detests any and all frilly fabric window treatments and refrains from using them. I only use translucent room darkening solar window shades -- minimalism, you know!

btw, my Rowenta has vertical steaming function for doing drapes! Thanks Mom -- great Christmas gift.

Actually I have a nice retractable cedar belt and tie hanger that I never installed on the rear of my closet door when I moved in. I always used it in New York. I have to find where I put it and then iron the rest of my ties after the holidays.

I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Cheap laundry is easy to find here.  Cheap and GOOD not so much.

Plus I might be JUST A TAD particular (read OCD) about how my shirts are done.

1) while disrobing last night after too many shots of bourbon one of my python cuff links broke and I was momentarily devastated. I'm still upset, but now more hung over.

2) pictars 4 closure

ps: do any of you have matching python cuff links and wallet? I BET YOU DO NOT.

I did once own a set of matching rattlesnake boots, belt and tie. (It was the '80s, what can I say?)

I used to iron my own dress shirts. I'd spend Sunday evening preparing my shirts for the coming week. A year or so of that, I started dropping them off at the cleaners. They did them better than I could and I was happy to pay them for their labor.

Iron curtains? Never. Those wrinkles are texture, how dare you question the need for them to be ironed?  ;D

I'm glad to see you standing on your own two feet. From all your recent podiatry-related posts, I wondered if your mobility would detract from your enjoyment of the evening.

I couldn't see you well in your photo, so I adjusted it some.

Have the best time and don't get soup on those nice ties .

Interestingly, ties were originally for that purpose - a sort of adult bib.
