Author Topic: Finally going to fix a mess (Read 17113 times)

In '03, I got a messed up hernia fix, which was accomplished laproscopicly. In '04, it was repaired the surgical way, and then the next afternoon I sneezed and it was wasted, so I have been going around, yes, even to Montreal, with my insides creeping out. Well, now that my immune response is so very much better, and I have been non-detectible since March; I thought it was time to fix it once again. I found a doctor in the VA who is not only an anal retentive technician, he is a very caring person for those of us in this club. I talked to him, and after he went ballistic, he assured me that there was no reason to not expect a good result this time, and he would be glad to make it happen. So all of this summer I have been waiting for the interns to get back into the University of Arizona Medical School, so there would be no possibility of getting a student to butcher me again, and today is that day.

I leave here in about three hours, and will be back tonight. It will take about one and a half hours, and he promises me that he will make sure every stitch is tied off and anchored to the point that next month I'll be able to lift all those bricks and create that wall that has been waiting to be built. Also I can finish building all the shit we have planned here.

Even though we "know" everything ahead of time, I am never comfortable with being put to sleep, and then awakened again in a few hours. Nerves seem to always creep in on the trip to Tucson, but in the end, it is really necessary and I look forward to being more active next month.

Check in again tomorrow, and let you all know how it turned out.

I wanted to wish you well on your surgery. I can relate to not wanting to be put to sleep ( I am such a control freak) but then, it's always worked out, like, I woke up.

Dang..after waiting all summer and then everything goes fast forward. Have a safe trip to Tucson.

I'm not uncomfortable being put to sleep, but I am quite curious. For two major surgeries, I had a spinal. I could talk, hear, sense some movement/pressure but no pain. Makes the recup faster than from general anesthesia. I note it just because it might be an option. Not risk-free, but then again not much is. Very glad to learn you can go ahead with this mess fixer.

I had hernia surgery done in April so I feel for you. It has taken several months to regain my strength.

i was semi-conscience during the surgery, so it was sorta weird feeling the tug tug tugging.

Hello Tim,

Good luck with the surgery. I had my hernia surgery done, I think it was in 2002. I was working one night and coming down off the ladder, when it "popped" on me, the next morning I was in surgery. So far still holding up. I didn't have the mesh put in. But, I've been taking it easy ever since. Never do any real exertion any more, ( or heavy lifting) hopefully, to prevent it from happenning again.

It was the 30 hours after the surgery that bothered me. Felt like someone, took a bat to my balls !!

Ouch !!

Make that a double "OUCH"

So,since I can't put the computer on my stomach, this will be a short note to thank all of you, and let you know it was a good success. However the doctor took about two hours to do a thrity minute proceedure, so I guess he must have done it right. staff was stellar,and let my sweetie in afterwards, whick for the VA is amazing. sorry for the ty pos and bad gammer, but I just can't movethat well, Check in again tomorrow., LOADS of pain. Vicoden is wonderful.............

The last time this happened, it was a sneeze the very next day that blew out the plug. Well, I guess he got the plug out and placed a mesh in. I'm still not too chipper and don't look forward to sitting around for a couple of weeks, but never fear, I will do just that. I dont' want to go through this again.

I forgot that they made your pee pee and balls black a bluie. What the hell kind of S&M was going on with my body when I was asleep and I didn't even know about it. Shit, my balls are huge and my whole crotch pretty swolen. I guess the more the swelling the more intricate the operation. Oh hell, everything in the middle hurts, and I am really just a mess, but I know I am recouperating well, because I slept better last night.

Lastly, I find it amazing that people I've never met really give a damn, so thanks to all of you, and you are definitely on my mind as I try to heal. Thanks again.

it's one of the reasons why I like these forums

- so many of us have been through the same problems, or similar problems, that we either have advice for getting through or, at the very least, sympathy and support for each other's trials and tribulations. Although I haven't been through any surgeries, I have spent time recovering before and know how painful it starts and how boring it quickly gets.

A bit of an update here.

Wow, I had no idea how much longer recovery was when you hit 60, shit, this is taking forever. The outside is healing really fast, but the inside is somewhat slower, and very much more painful. I can remember having my first hernia fixed after tearing it open water skiing in the Sacramento delta, and it didn't take nearly as long when you are 29. Oh well, I am minding what the doctor instructed and staying home and fairly inactive for two whole weeks. Isn't easy, but for days like today, I understand the importance of cooling it.

It's during this painful and boring part (remember, I did warn you about "painful" and "boring" LOL) that you gotta just keep remembering that every day is a day closer to being totally recovered.

In another couple of weeks, this will all be just another experience to talk/brag about.

now I didn't say that recovery wasn't like torture, because it kinda is! ROFL Being "half-sick" or "not-quite-well" is nearly worse than being sick. Personally, I'd rather feel like crap and not feel like doing anything than feel well enough to want to do things and not be able to.

At least at the end of this torturous period, you'll be back to your happy, smiling, "weight-lifting-without-your-guts-spilling-out" old self.

Well guys, seems like I can finally breath a sigh of relief. The surgery was incredible and is healing so very well. Monday I went to the doctor and he gave me the go ahead to start working again. He did say I couldn't lift more than 30 pounds, and should probably leave the construction of the wall in the garden for spring. Fabulous, so that means I can finish up some of the chores in the house that have been waiting for a body that isn't going to fall apart. I have doors to hang, an office to create, bathrooms to remodel, and on and on; so I am now really happy that I can start doing some real shit again. YAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad to hear that you're doing so well - and it hasn't even been quite a month! I know you've been chomping at the bit since day two to be recovered and back on your feet.

Just don't overdo it now that you're free to work on your projects.

Looks like they are working!

Be careful hanging those doors, etc., until you are sure you won't rip or strain something.

Thanks guys, I am going strong I guess, so yesterday I took out the bike and went food shopping for the first time in about a month and a half. It is so nice to be back on the bike, because I really love that. Our temps here are now cooling substantially so riding is a bundle up proposition once again. I don't mind because when I lived in the Bay Area, we always had to do full leathers to go anywhere on bikes. I still have the chaps as you can see in my pic, but they surely don't fit like they did when I had some meat on my legs. Hell, I used to have to use a leather strap just to get the zippers down. Now I can almost put them on with the zippers already fastened. Oh well, at least I'm still here to bitch about it.
