HIV Risk - No Condom/Condom

I have been reading these forums and taking in the information, so thank you very much first and foremost.

Now to my particular situation - I had anal intercourse with an "undetectable" positive male partner. I was the TOP in the situation. It began with about 45-60 seconds of unprotected light rubbing of the hole and insertion of the head of my penis followed by anal intercourse that was protected by a latex condom. This happened in mid-November.

I get tested once a year regardless, but will move up my test from April to February due to this risky circumstance.

My question is, is there risk of HIV in the rectal secretions or blood or however HIV would be transmitted into my penis staying alive inside the condom during the intercourse after the initial exposure of the head of my penis unprotected or would it be killed when my penis was withdrawn from the body and in the act of putting on the condom?

Thanks for any help with this situation! I understand there is risk and I will be testing, just wondering if the HIV can stay alive outside the body/inside the condom while I had the protected intercourse AFTER the initial short unprotected light penetration.

If the partner/bottom was indeed undetectable, there was no significant risk in the event as you describe it.


"Undetectable" mean literally less than five or so parts of HIV per unit of blood. Therefore blood is not an issue here. "anal secretions" is a generic and vague term that usually references lubrication in the rectal area. These too benefit from proper drug adherence. The only fluid that seems to occasionally have a separate "spike" in viral particles  is semen.

Even there, whether the viral particles found are viable, or in sufficient quantity to be considered infectious. Of course, this is predicated on your partner being adherent to a successful drug regimen. It would seem wise to reserve safer sex negotiation based on an undetectable viral load for a committed, monogamous relationship, as the presence of an active STD can cause a spike in viral load, despite adherence to a successful drug regimen.

In short, while it would be prudent to test, considering the circumstances, I do not believe that this situation presents a significant risk for HIV.
