Wow. I don't recall any Forums member posting a picture like that before. You are a fighter! I could say so many more things based on that photo, but the most important one is that I'm glad you recovered and are here to tell us about it. Again, WOW!

Lugzsoo,
So glad you pulled through the Pcp. I hope it is not rude to ask but were you on a vent or bi-pap to help your breathing?
Peace,
Billy

Always told myself, before dying I will dance.
Obsiously, looking at the pics, there is no warranty that will be physically possible but hopefully mentally.

Glad you are with us Lugzsoo! Welcome back for long time.

Randy,

It is a very powerful picture, Thanks for posting, and its great that you've made a good recovery.  That was a real tough time for you - no doubt! I had bacterial pneumonia, back in 2003, but nothing like what you went through.

I had my partner take some pictures of me , back in 2003.  They weren't hospital pics, but pics showing what 30 pounds of wasting looks like. I also have some pics of one hell of a case of shingles.  I think I did this for my own good. It's harder for my partner to look at them than it is for myself,  but I think I needed to have those pictures for my own mental health. I also took pictures after starting on meds, to show the rapid improvements that took place.

When I get a little discouraged as far as having to take medications every day, the pics remind me, why I need to take the meds.  It's a part of my life , I don't want to repeat, and hope to avoid again.

Thanks/ Take good care of yourself---Ray

This pic would make a good PSA for those who are afraid/ do not wish to take Meds.

Yikes, though I know how you feel.  I didn't have the vent part of it, but I had all sorts of monitors, IV's, hoses, etc when I had PCP in '06.  In fact, it's almost 5 years to the day that I got out of the hospital.  The whole thing is a bit of a blur, which I suppose is a blessing, but I still think back to how sick I was... especially when I get out of breath; my lungs never did recover as well as I'd have liked.  It's good that you're here and doing well today.  Hell, in another month or so, you can celebrate a year of being out of the hospital!  ;)

You sir, are a fighter. Someone close to me suffered from PCP this last september, and seeing your pic was just like seeing him in that time..with al the IV, tubes, even the vent to help him breath...

It was terrible, whenever he had to sneeze, or cough, it hurts him bad, very bad, in that moment even the doctors said that one of his lungs wasn't functioning, I feared the worst for that month. It was a scary moment for him and his family, and all I could do was to be there and offer some support.

Fortunately, he'd left the hospital in october, and he's doing well. Started the ARV therapy right away without questions (he takes truvada and efavirenz).

When I was diagnosed back in 2008, I got the aids Dx, but I only had wasting syndrome (and chronic dhiarrea from more than 3 months) and molluscus contagious, but fortunately I finally get my head off the sand and got diagnosed before anything badder happened, like PCP.

That's why I admire you guys who battled PCP and now are standing here, I cannot imagine if I have the will of fighting that monster. BTW, the denialists and people fearing the meds should look this pic and see if they are willing to go through this.
Dx: 05/14/2008
Latest HIV Meds combo I've been taking:

Kaletra + Combivir (since 05/16/2008 - 05/09/2019)
Acriptega (05/10/2019 - today)

Lugzsoo, this is my first post on the forum ... and that picture could be me, on my 40th birthday (in 2005).  I was on a vent also.  Before I went under to get intubated, when I was still in ICU, a social worker asked me if I wanted a priest, a minister, or a lawyer; I told her I wasn't going to die, and I didn't, and you didn't, and I'm typing this with tears in my eyes but "it's all good."  Congratulations to you!

Congrat's on your recovery; went the same way as you about 4 years ago; hit me suddenly; almost died, but started Meds and now my CD4 is 464.  Spent 21 days in ICU...when I got out thought I'd be dead in a year, here I am 4 yrs later feeling pretty good so hang in there buddy!
