Curious about my meds
« on: August 12, 2010, 10:08:39 pm »
Ok, so I was recently diagnosed POZ, found out while carrying my son.  As of June 25,2010, my counts were CD4-642 VL 24,710 which my doctor told me was low enought that if not for being pregnant I wouldn't need meds right now.  Buttt since I was pregnant, she put me on Kaletra 200-50mg and Truvada 200mg-300mg tablets. I didn't get started on meds until I was I think 35 or 36 weeks along because of problems with my insurance and being able to get my meds. Well, after being on the meds for about a week when I started having contractions. Contractions started on Wednesday evening (7-21) and by Friday/Saturday started discharging my plug. Also started with diarreah around this time frame(which is also a sign of going into early labor as well as a side effect of the meds if I'm reading things correctly) Well by Monday when I went in for my weekly check-up the doctor said "You are having him TONIGHT" (7-26) My question is, has anyone been on these meds before while pregnant and ended up going into early labor? I'm asking because before I started on the meds I didn't have any problems with the "D" or contractions or cramping either, and then shortly after starting them, I'm contracting and going to the hospital to have my son. Anyone experienced this before or know of anyone that has? Any advice, comments, etc. is greatly appreciated. As I said, I'm new at this. Still waiting to have new blood work done since having my son to see how my counts are now.  And also, my son was born healthy, still waiting to get his test results back to see if he is poz or neg, have an appt with pediatric specialst on Aug 18 and should get his results then. But his name is Austyn Dean, he was 5lbs 13.8 oz abd 19 1/2 inches long.

p.s.My husband has been getting regularly tested since I came up positive in March, and is still coming up negative!! :)  Thanks everyone!

Hi Shad,

Welcome to the Forums and congratulations on the birth of your little man! :)

This is a bit of a horse already left the stable situation but you might like to read our lessons on the medications you're taking. Some clickable links:

Kaletra
Truvada

There is a section in each lesson discussing the issues for pregnant women and nursing mothers who are taking these medications.

As a bloke I've never experienced early labour (and I don't expect to) ;) but we have positive Womens' Board here where you can seek advice on such things from other women. We have a number of women members who have had kids whilst poz.

You may even like to have this thread moved to the Womens' board. One of our moderators can do that for you if you want.

Cheers!

MtD
