Dont Forget Joan Rivers....
« on: August 02, 2006, 10:48:07 am »
As long as the subject of celebrities and their bigoted remarks is in play , I thought Id share my lovely experience at a Joan Rivers show during a recent vacation.
Normally I wouldn't bother even watching Joan host some tired Awards show, but this was on a cruise and it was literally the only show in town, and the 'Main Event'... Ya Right.
She's one tired, used up Has Been, if there ever was one. I didn't mind her routines about snooty celebrities.. they're fair game, I didn't mind most of the Gay Jokes either, some were even funny, When she started in on the Concentration Camp jokes I raised an eyebrow, but the absolute pinnacle of Bad Taste came with the AIDS jokes.
Yep, and we thought that those had died with Sam Kinnison. It basicly went " AIDS isnt fatal anymore, in fact most of them are in better shape Than I am ! I go to drop off food for the patients and Theyre out at the Fucking Gym !!"
way to go Joan..Oh ya did I mention that this was on a Gay Cruise?  I just loved her closing statement about how the best work her agent could get for her "was to book me on a fucking GAY cruiseship."  No wonder the audience has been known to walk out on her shows. Concentration camps and AIDS jokes... just the way you want to end a career.
I imagine that they got plenty of feedback after that show.. Charro was definitely better.

Anybody else had the pleasure of catching Joan Rivers latest act ??

She was running through jokes so fast that laughter from one carried into the punchline of another...so it was hard to tell, but I heard alot of 'Oh my Gawd that was tasteless" remarks on the way out oif the show.

How sad about Joan, but eventually all those face and body lifts had to take a toll, too bad they took her compassion.  I still don't understand what we, as gays, have done to make the straight world HATE us so much?

Yes indeed I have Lwood...

She and Don Rickles came to a Biloxi casino.....  talk about offensive.  I found her jokes tasteless and vulgar
although she was a big hit with the local rednecks.  Hell they invited her back again.
A friend of mine worked room service in the hotel where she and Don Rickles stayed during the two shows they performed and there's one thing you never ever do....Don't piss off the guy bringing you your dinner.  Who knows what personal touches they add to your food.   ::)

Oh come on now boys, Joan has always been that way...using sick humor in her lifetime career as a stand up comic.  She's Jewish and likes to joke a lot about that fact and others.  If the Jewish organizations were offended by her "concentration camp" jokes, they would have gone after Joan like they are in LA targeting Mel Gibson and his nasty Jewish comments during his DUI arrest.

So she cracks jokes about AIDS.  B.F.D.!  We need to laugh at even crass jokes on the subject.  And ya know, she is kind of right about the fact that when delivering meals, for example, that the recipient isn't "F**king home!"  It's true, some HIV/AIDS patients are heading back to the gym.  I don't need food from an agency anymore(but had to go pick it up and I worked out at a gym) yet I have gotten back into the gym for personal and health reasons.

We as American people are continuing our trek back into the DARK AGES!!  You can't even sneeze anymore because somebody will find something wrong with that.  Incidentally, people used to "Bless you," or say "God bless you" because they thought that would prevent your "SOUL" from leaving your body.  What a "Wives tale!"

Let's get back to the 21st Century and laugh at ourselves.  At least the crass AIDS jokes by Joan is getting people used to hearing about HIV/AIDS.    We need to keep bringing this horrific issue out to the open and up front and center so people will finally "GET A CLUE" about how serious this virus is........not just, "Oh well, I can just pop some meds."

Finally, as crass and in bad taste as we may "JUDGE" Joan Rivers and her jokes, she has the First Amendment behind her.  As long as she doesn't go outside the scope of free speech, like yelling, "FIRE," in a crowded theater, she is protected.  If you don't like her or her comedy and jokes, walk out or don't go to hear her perform.

It's as simple as turning off the media device or changing the channel.  FREE SPEECH also includes the BAD and CRASS speech.   Otherwise, you will live in a POLICE STATE like Iran or China and even like Cuba.

TUNE IN OR TUNE OUT.

PS:  On the cruise, did you sit through her entire routine or did you walk out??  If you walked out, then there is no need for this blog!!

Love to all my brothers, sisters, and children who suffer from HIV/AIDS like me! ;D

I've been stewing on this all afternoon, afraid to say anything in Joan's defense but I have to agree with plmgood.  She's always been on the extreme side of offensive and there's nothing new here to be upset about - just a different group.  Hey, at least she's delivering meals!
