very bad news for our family
« on: March 08, 2008, 07:23:46 pm »
We got a phone call today from Hubby's oldest brother.  Brother's oldest son, Jon, has had a very rocky life.  He's been on drugs since he was 11, in gangs, and fathered 4 children in 4 years.  He and his "family" were displaced during Hurricane Katrina at which time his girlfriend's mom took them all in.  For reasons we can't understand, Jon, his girlfriend, and 2 of the children ended up back in N.O. with maternal grandma keeping the other 2.

The body of Jon's girlfriend - the mother of his chidlren - was just identified today.  She was found dead on the streets of N.O. during Mardi Gras of an apparent over dose.  Her mom is now seeking custody of all 4 children.  This NEEDS to happen, believe me.  It would be a much better situation for the children.  However, now Jon has gone under with the 2 children that he took back to N.O.  No one can find them and a missing person's report has been filed.  Because they are with their father, the police see no cause for concern.  Even after explaining the situation, Jon's past (and present) drug / alcohol abuse, gang membership, domestic violence cases, CPS involvement, and very long criminal record, the police say they can not intervene.

For those of you who pray, we certainly need some.  He has no job, no money, and 2 children whom he will think nothing of abandoning if they get to be too much "trouble" for him.

Thanks,
Mum

Mum, I am so sorry to hear of this.  You know I will certainly be sending positive energy your way and also the N.O. way.  Let us know what happens. We're here for you, baby.

I am so sorry to hear your family is going through such a hard time.  I will keep everyone is my thoughts and prayers.  The answers you got from the cops do not seem acceptable at all, that law needs to be changed.

I'm saddened to read this post Mum and I hope that somehow it all works out and the children are not made to suffer but instead find happiness and stability.

I wanted to thank everyone for their responses, thoughts, and prayers.  I let hubby read them and he, too, was encouraged.  We've not heard anything else except that Jon and the kids have been running for 3 weeks.  (Thanks a lot for telling us! >:( ) We're not sure which of the kids he has, but their ages are 11, 10, 9, and 8.  3 girls, 1 boy.

If we hear anything more, i'll be sure to let you all know.

Thanks again.

I wasn't aware of this family tragedy that has happened - I hope that sanity and commonsense prevail for the sake of the children.
It is always the innocent victims who suffer in a situation like this, although sometimes it takes this sort of thing to make someone realise that they have responsibilities to others in their lives.
I sincerely hope that it all turns out for the best.

Scuddles

Sorry to hear of this tragic news ......I hope the brother will bring the kids to grandma's house. It does also seem to me that eventually he will quickly grow tired of the responsibilities: the kids will get in the way of his lifestyle. Meanwhile lets focus on thoughts that the kids will be OK while he remains out of contact.
my prayers,
Mike

Those poor kids. Here's hoping they get found and can go to their grandmother who wants to keep them all together.
