Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD ) in HIV

This has been a concern of mine, for at least the past year, and it's something that I believe, I need to be tested for. I have brought this (PAD) to my doctors attention at least twice in the past year.

Anyone been diagnosed with Peripheral Arterial Disease. This is now a concern of mine, as I believe that I am dealing with this now. I need to find out more about it . The leg pain I am dealing with is not the same PN pain, that I have had in the past.

Current Meds ; Viramune / Epzicom Eliquis, Diltiazem. Pravastatin 80mg, Ezetimibe. UPDATED 2/18/24
 Tested positive in 1985,.. In October of 2003, My t-cell count was 16, Viral load was over 500,000, Percentage at that time was 5%. I started on  HAART on October 24th, 2003.

 UPDATED: As of April, 2nd 2024,Viral load Undetectable.
CD 4 @593 /  CD4 % @ 18 %

Lymphocytes,total-3305 (within range)

cd4/cd8 ratio -0.31

cd8 %-57

Don't really know much about PAD yet, but have recently had DVT (clots) in my legs so am on increased blood thinners.   Watch the leg pain as that's what lead to my complaints and the diagnosis with DVTs.

I'm in the firm grip of a university research group working on HIV and neurology. They love their equipment and test me for everything. One of the doctors is very hot, so I let them do what they have to do. Anyways, last week they suggested I should get a magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) which seems an appropriate method to test for PAD. I don't have any complications with my arteries, but they want to run it to get a background for future studies and developments.

Thanks Bob and Cerrid for that info. I'l keep this post updated as I talk more to the doctor about this, and see what he recommends !

Thanks for bring this up Ray. I have had some really unusual pain in my legs of late. I will bring up PAD to my DR. I had never heard of this before.

I will let you know what he says.

Ray, thanks for bringing up this concerning topic.  I was wondering myself about PAD.  I certainly have quite a few risk factors.  I just read something about it on poz's site I believe.  If I can find the link again, I'll post it.  I'm going to see my doctor Monday and I will definitely talk to him about it.
