Title: Peri Anal Abscess
Post by: villaboy1 on March 10, 2007, 06:09:47 am
Hey

What a bloody nightmare. In December 2006 just 3 weeks after confirmation that I am HIV+ I ended up in casualty with a peri anal abscess. The procedure went well and it began to heal. However, as is typical of bad timing with HIV I was at dinner and it erupted again so once again ended up in casualty.

No great pain but it still will not quite heal and keeps discharging. Has anyone else experienced this and I guess that its another trip to the quacks (doctors). Also can a peri anal abscess be a symptom of anything else nasty?.

Thanks all..

Hey

Sorry to here about this. They're as common as muck - my brother (HIV -ve) had one and I saw about 7 in a 4-week A+E attachment. All in HIV -ve guys. They're not associated with anything nasty, it's usually caused by an infected hair follicle. If you're really hairy down there you might find is useful to clipper it down (helps if you're gay!) and make sure you keep it very clean.

All the best,

Matt.

I think it is caused by shaving down there or clippering down there,

i say do not worry about the hair down there,

logic states that we get more ingrown hair where we shave or clip than in normal long hairs, i think the advice to shave could cause more abscesses

think about it

the trama of shaving or clipping can cause  ingrown hair

Yeah - I guess there's a logic there. But it's an infected ingrown hair. So if there's so much it's stopping you keep clean then I'd clipper.

Personally I've never got ingrown hairs from clippering. Shaving, yeah - but there's no way I'd put a razor back there anyway!

OUCH!

You might also use something like neosporin or bacitracin or any like substance to keep help to keep the area clean while it's healing.

If it becomes a chronic situation you will likely begin to be aware of when you feel irritated in which case giving it a good schmeer of any of the above may help to prevent an infection from taking hold.

Sitting in a hot bath of epsom salts can be both relieving and curative as well.
