When you say, "heard about", do you mean something has happened to her?

Hi,
My name is Alexis Nowak. I am Lisa's daughter in law. I just wanted to let everyone know that Lisa passed away on April 5, 2010 of a heart attack. If you know any of her friends, please inform them.
                                                          Thank you,

That is indeed very sad news.  Perhaps it would be helpful for other board members if either franfrog could edit the title of this thread, or even preferably begin a new one with this news.

I suggest someone move it to the memorial forum and repost. I met Lisa in Montreal, and we kept sporadically in touch afterwards. Several times, I sent her  boxes of old/unused meds. I used to always put a ferret toy or two into the box, for her beloved pet. I know how broken up she was when Sweetie died, and how thrilled she was when she got a new ferret, and finally a home to call her own. She was a strong and funny woman who did not deserve a tenth of the shit that was bestowed upon her, least of all HIV.

rest in Peace, Lisa. Goddess knows you provided members of this forum with lifesaving drugs and never asked for anything in return. Goddess knows you provided peace to others, and received far too little in return.

I never got to know her.  Even so, I'm sad to hear the news.  It was a heart attack?  How old was she?  I know even younger people can have heart attacks and people with HIV and on certain meds seem to be more at risk.  I ask, because I remember reading about the HIVer and activist from the UK who died of a heart attack at age 31, I believe.  Very sad.

Very saddened to hear of Lisa's passing.  My heart goes out to her family. I remember she was so excited about buying her new home.

A few years back, Ed and I were going to meet up with Lisa on one of our road trips, when we were in North Carolina, but something had come up and she couldn't meet us.

Lisa was definitely one of a kind.  I'm not one for talking on the phone, but she was one person who I could speak to for quite a long time.  So many fond memories....her running down the street barefoot, in the rain in Montreal.  Her hair always being a mess....her apparently wrestling me to bed cause I took too many pills and went crazy in her hotel room.  Me giving her a tour of my new place in London via skype.

I will miss her terribly but am forever grateful that I got to know her.  She was such a joy to be around.

RIP

Wow, I'm with Rod, very unexpected shock! She was such a kind soul, and damn funny, too. I hung out with her in Montreal and SF; I remember running into a nightclub to find someone for her as they wouldn't let her in without shoes. RIP Lisa!

I read this last night, but could not respond until today. I've kept in touch with Lisa for years and I am so glad that I replaced her computer, after it was stolen, as that was her window to the world. I've been thinking about her recently and was going to call her this weekend.

Lisa, you wonderful, crazy woman, with a boundless heart to match. I will miss you terribly...

Love,

Joe

How very unexpected and very very sad. :'( It's always a very sad day when we lose one of our members, no, our friends from AM. Why it seems like just yesterday I posted Happy Birthday wishes to her this past January. Rest in Peace Lisa and my deepest condolences to all her friends and family.

I'm shocked and saddened.  I first met Lisa at AMG in San Francisco in 2007.  When I stopped taking Atripla, she helped me redistribute some of my unused meds.  She was compassionate, one-of-a-kind, and a person and presence I will miss.

Henry

I am at a lost for words.

I have such great memories of Lisa in Montreal. She was such a happy, caring soul.

I remember walking with her in the AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco.

She was a beautiful, unique lady.

Her daughter-in-law sent me the same pm, which I just opened today.

I am heartbroken about this.   Lisa was very dear to me.   Our "AMG" group has lost two special people recently, Ric and Lisa.....a very severe blow to many of us.

Lisa, my dear friend, I will miss you so much.   I am sorry I was not a better friend to you, in recent months.  I should have MADE a way to come and visit your new home.   I have so many wonderful memories of you to keep in my heart forever (and some great photos too!).   Honey, when they made you, they broke the mold -- you were truly one of a kind.

Rest in peace, sweet lady.  As JK so aptly put it, you had WAY too much sh*t dished out to you in this life....here's hoping the next one brings you some well-deserved peace.   Go on angel wings, my dear.

With love and sorrow,

Alan   :'(

PS  here's the obit I found online:

NOWAK GERMANTON - Lisa Jill Rhodes Nowak, 52, passed away unexpectedly on April 5, 2010 at her residence. Survivors include her children, Michelle Nowak and Michael Nowak, both of Winston-Salem; Brian (Alexis) Nowak of Germanton; brother, Jeffrey Rhodes of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, Serenity Nowak, Elijjah Thomas and Amearah Thomas. Private services will be held at a later date

She showed me her new home and she mentioned  meeting a new man in her life.

She seemed so alive.....

We had
Our "AMG" group has lost two special people recently, Ric and Lisa.....a very severe blow to many of us.

That's exactly how I feel.  Lisa and I had numerous online conversations, especially when I first joined right after diagnosis.  After meeting at AMG, we had many phone conversations, though none recently.  It seemed that things were going well for her (or at least I thought so).  I'll certainly miss her posting and her sense of humor.  Lisa was a kind, unique, funny, and genuinely good person.

Be at peace Lisa... You made me laugh when I need it most.

Lisa was indeed one of a kind and you loved her the moment you met her and the great big, genuine laugh would bellow out of the girl.  Spending fun times with her in places such as Nashville, Montreal and San Francisco was the stuff that life was made of.  Lisa would just light up a room when she came in it, her great, inner beauty always shined through.

We know she had some troubles along the way but she was a rock for so many others here and in her family life.

Jerry, it is you in particular I think about and hope you are doing well.

Almost all of us here only know one another by virtue of the gift of this website and so in its own unique twist of fate we all came to know Lisa and that was a gift itself in the face of life with AIDS.  Thanks Lisa, for being you and I'm glad I knew you.  You'll always be missed but never forgotten.
