« on: June 10, 2009, 09:23:43 am »
Hi have been a lurker on this site since i was diagnosed in January  I had never been tested before   noone to blame but me  Had syphilis and hiv   The doctor reckoned i have had hiv for around 8 years as i had epstein barr and impetigo at that time and hadnt been sick really since  however the syphilis was a more recent infection hiv numbers were  538 cd4  and viral load 374   received treatment for syphilis and  had second test last week   just got numbers today which are 618 cd4 and viral load 6700  now my doc reassured me obviously im fine for now no need for treatment and just come back in 3 mths  My question is is there anyone on the forums who also had syphilis and hiv at the same time and does the treatment of the syphilis affect the hiv numbers   my doc said no  i am just confused  ??? and wanted to see had anyone else been in a similar situation as myself Did having the syphilis suppress the hiv ?  Sorry this is my first post apologise for messy typing i honestly thought i was dealing with things fine but the jump in vl has freaked me out  Am just about to sit university exams next week and am starting counselling soon so hopefuy that will give me some perspective Thanks for reading any help/advice  would be most welcome

You would probably get more responses to this post if it were posted on the Living With HIV forum and if you changed the title to something like "Questions About HIV/Syphilis Co-Infection"

 ;)
