OK,
Here is the deal!
On June 1st, 2008 I had Unprotected insertive oral sex.  Since then I have had severe Swollen Lymph Nodes in the Neck and a filling of Malaise which good be due to self pity.  I have had two Doctors describe it has general Lymphoma and 1 as being Normal.  Since then I have had two HIV Standard Antibody test from Labcorb which has come up negative one at 6 weeks post exposure and the other at 13+2 days.  The thing that confuses me is that what is the window period?  These Lymph nodes have been swollen for more than 3 months.  I did catch Gental Herpes from this encounter which was classified as HSV-1.  This means that there is a possibility that I could have become infected.  Please help! I am looking for support.

You were never at risk of contracting HIV.

I appreciate your answer and although I am new to this forum I still need reassurance.  My doctor is requesting I get one of these Lymph Nodes removed to see if it is cancer.  I can tell you for a 110% fact that they were not like this before.  I feel like I am completely loosing my mind.  I have had every test imaginable and they have all come out as normal.  Please help!

Need somemore guidance!  Although according to CDC and the SFC I am at a low risk you still can't disregard the symptoms.   What other test can I take to be reassured.  Thanks in advance for your replies!

Lost,

There are hundreds - if not thousands - of reasons why lymph glands can swell or cause problems.

You didn't have a risk for hiv infection. Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Your negative results are not going to change as a result of getting a blowjob. You ARE hiv negative.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER TESTING OVER YOUR BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistenly, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Ann,

Thanks for your time and your support.  I am going back to the Dr. today for some additional test to see if it could possibly be something else.  Your advice is greatly appreciated.  We are just running out of options to try and figure out why these lymph nodes started swelling around the same time as this event.  I do pray that you are correct about my possible exposure and I will be sure to never let something like this happen again if I get through this one.  Just in case, outside of the Standard Antibody Test what other test if any would you recommend so I can put this to bed.  Thanks again for everything!

It isn't a question of whether your symptoms could be something other than HIV. There just isn't any doubt. In the entire history of the epidemic no guy has ever gotten HIV from getting a blowjob and you for sure aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

Whatever is going on symptomatically has nothing to do with HIV. Period. You're worrying needlessly about that.

Lost,

A standard antibody test is all you need. In fact, you don't need further testing over this blowjob. You ARE hiv negative.

Good luck finding out what's wrong with your lymph nodes. Whatever it is, it won't be a result of your blowjob. Sometimes a coincidence is nothing of the sort.
